Santa Monica Pier

  • November 10, 2015

This weekend, Robin and I took a mini-vacation to Santa Monica. That’s one of the perks of living in San Francisco – Los Angeles is just a 6ish hour drive away. On Friday after work, we headed out to SoCal.

I’m not going to lie – the traffic out (and in!) San Francisco can be a major headache. We left at 4pm and it still took us 3 hours to get out of the official Bay Area. UGGGG. But I had loaded my phone up with podcasts and we listened to them the whole way down. I’m not totally hooked to This American Life.

We arrived in Santa Monica around midnight and had a little problem with our hotel (more on that later!), but still woke up to blue skies, warm temps and palm trees for as far as the eye could see. Like an excited little kid, I set my alarm early and get us out of the hotel and down to the Santa Monica Pier before 10:30am. We both really liked getting to walk the pier without being surrounded by a huge crowd. We even got there before the rides had started! Santa Monica Pier with Skunkfunk _MG_7285 _MG_7287 _MG_7289_MG_7408 _MG_7435_MG_7296

Since this was Robin’s first time to SoCal, and I haven’t been since I was 16, I knew we’d want to spend the weekend doing more exploring vs. lounging on the beach. Skunk Funk provided me with one of their great dresses, which not only has a fun pattern and is light enough to wear all day in the sun, but all of their clothing is sustainable. I went into the store and they had me feel a jacket that was made from recycled bottle. Yes, bottles! All their cotton is organic and they do a great job of figuring out ways to help the environment in the production process (like shipping via sea to reduce their carbon footprint). I love it – I’ve always been a big supporter of pro-environment companies and initiatives. You can read more about that HERE.

Anyways, I love the pattern on this dress. So much fun! The dark color makes it really easy to pair with boots, cardigans, tights, etc for everyday wear here in San Francisco. I also really like this dress, this top and these pants from Skunk Funk.

I have a LOT more stuff to share with you about Santa Monica and Venice – including another dress from Skunk Funk, so stay tuned!
