On my first trip to London years ago, I was broke and booked a shabby hotel on the West Side with a view of a wall. This time on my solo trip to London I knew I wanted to upgrade.
Scrolling through Instagram, I stumbled upon captivating photos from fellow travelers: lounging in CitizenM Tower of London rooms, with the iconic landmark as their backdrop.
This was the London experience I craved. Waking up to a piece of history, breathing in the city’s vibrant energy – all from the comfort of a stylish hotel room. Intrigued, I booked a 3-night stay at this CitizenM London hotel, eager to experience it for myself.
If you’re considering staying at thee CitizenM Tower of London hotel with its unbeatable Tower of London views, keep reading for my honest review!
CitizenM Tower of London is a modern hotel ideally situated right above Tower Hill Station. This puts you steps away from exploring the historic Tower of London itself, as well as offering easy access to the rest of the city via the London Underground. Their rooms are known for their sleek design and focus on technology, with amenities like in-room tablets controlling lighting, temperature, and even smart curtains.
Upgrade Your London Stay: What It’s Like At The CitizenM Tower Hotel
I knew the CitizenM Tower of London was at the Tower of London, hence the name, but I didn’t realize it was literally on top of the Tower tube station. You exit the underground and turn right, walk 5 feet and BOOM, there’s the hotel’s front doors.
This made navigating the city incredibly easy.
Check-in is all on little computer screens, though there are attendants ready to help guests that need assistance. I booked myself a Tower view room online, but when checking in I was presented with options for my room.
Things like:
- High level garden view
- Low level interior view
- Low Level Tower View
- High Level Shard View
Obviously I picked the Tower view room, who wouldn’t?! But it did make me wonder that I could have booked the Tower room but got placed in another room if other guests all picked the Tower view first… the hotel has over 300 rooms but only about a third actually face the tower.
But thankfully I’m an early bird and was able to secure a coveted room on the first floor.
The Rooms Are Compact But Functional
I walked into my hotel room and immediately was thankful I only had carry-on luggage. Normally I’m a checked bag girlie and on this trip originally had 2 large checked suitcases when I was traveling with my husband.
We started in Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Sweden. He flew home and took the large luggage and I keep the carry-on bag for my solo London trip. The CitizenM hotel rooms are small, but I had more than enough space with just my carry-on bag and myself.
It wold have been tight with my husband and a large suitcase as well.
CitizenM hotels are famous for their luxury rooms at an affordable price tag. Think: high end soaps that smell amazing, plush towels, smart lights for vibes and smart TVs so you can stream whatever you want.
They are also famous for their King beds that are right up against the window. I found this to be so comfortable and a great use of space. I had a ball lounging in bed at night, streaming the new season of Bridgerton and looking at the Tower of London views.
Breakfast Isn’t Free But Is Tasty
Many European hotels offer free breakfast, but CitizenM only offers a paid breakfast at 19 pounds a person. I chose to skip it most mornings but on my last morning I had to pop off to the airport early and chose to dine there for convenience. It’s a pretty good buffet breakfast but, this is London. You can easily find an amazing breakfast out for less.
I did enjoy the late night kitchen, though. One day after walking 11 miles I was starving at 10pm and didn’t want to go walking alone outside to get snacks. I ordered a cheese pizza and it was ready to pick up downstairs in 15 minutes. They are also open early each morning for espressos and lattes which I appreciate.
Rooftop Cloud Bar
A Highlight of this hotel is their rooftop bar which was a large outdoor deck that wraps around the building. The views up here are insane, facing the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, Shard and 30 St Mary Axe (The Gherkin). This bar acts more like a co-working space with tables and gathering areas, including a library.
I grabbed a beer but they also serve wine and cocktails. This place gets busy quickly so if you are eager for a seat outside, come on the earlier side.
@whimsysoul was not expecting THIS view of London from my hotel room! I booked last minute so assumed they would stick me in a room facing a wall but this was amazing! Loved falling asleep to the view of the Tower of London and Tower Bridge! 📌 Citizen M hotel tower bridge in London #citizenm #london #england #towerbridge #toweroflondon #coolhotels #hotels #londonhotels #uk #whimsysoul #luxuryhotel ♬ original sound – Kara | travel girlie
CitizenM Tower Of London Review After 3 Nights: Is It Worth It?
I stayed for 3 nights and absolutely could have comfortably stayed longer. Next time I visit London I’m absolutely booking this hotel again.
The only thing that worries me is, you aren’t guaranteed a Tower of London view. Some of the rooms face an interior building “courtyard” with zero privacy. Others face the Shard or other East End buildings.
Nothing is as iconic as the Tower of London views of the Tower Bridge poking out behind it and I would be disappointed if I didn’t have that view.
There’s a few other CitizenM hotels in the city, like the CitizenM London Bankside, London Shoreditch hotel, and London Victoria Station hotel but I loved the Tower of London location best. The views are amazing and it’s literally right on top of a tube station.
London Bankside, for instance, is about a 10 minute walk from Southwark station. I loved the location of the Tower of London property, the amenities, the rooftop bar and the late night kitchen so even if I didn’t get that view, I would still find tremendous value in staying at the hotel.
If you’re looking for the best hotel in London, especially for solo stays, this is a great option.
