San Francisco apartments are known for their charm, but not always for their spaciousness. I adore our apartment (and the rent control) We’ve been here for almost 10 years and while I love my boho living room jungalow vibes, lately, my living room felt a bit, well, stuck.
I didn’t want to buy a whole new couch and decor set, but I’ve been looking for a way to give it a bit of a makeover. Something that captured the boho decor spirit without blowing my budget (or something that meant I had to sacrifice space I don’t have!)
Enter Wayfair! I discovered a treasure trove of home decor finds that helped me create a fresh look with just a few small touches. Get ready to see how I transformed my San Francisco living room into a functional, cute space, all thanks to Wayfair’s amazing selection!
In Need Of An Apartment Living Room Makeover
If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that I’m constantly working on making our apartment feel like home. When we first moved to San Francisco in 2014 (!!) we were broke broke.
Robin and I slept on a futon mattress on the floor and sat on a $10 thrifted couch for a whole year. Thankfully we are no longer insanely broke, but I’ve learned it’s hard to transform a space you’ve been living in for so long.
I recently redid our dining nook and transformed it into a much more functional pantry / work space, and after that project was done I’ve been eyeing our living room.
Specifically the couch and coffee table area. Our throw pillows are about 4 years old and used to have tassels, but our cat, Twyla, ripped them all off over the years so now they just look sad. Our side tables are remnants of our broke broke days and something I’ve been meaning to replace literally for years but haven’t gotten around to.
And our coffee table decor is fine, but I’ve been starring at it for 6+ years. So, when Wayfair reached out and challenged me to refresh a space with small items that make a big impact, I jumped at the chance to give this corner of our apartment some love.
Enter Wayfair: A Treasure Trove of Boho Home Decor Finds
If you can’t tell, I love color and texture when it comes to home decor (hey, I did paint our Whimsy Homes cabin floor green after all!)
Our San Francisco apartment is small, but full of plants and gets the best afternoon light… you know, when it’s not foggy. It’s technically a studio apartment and our bed is 6 feet away from our living room corner, so decorating this space is always a little tricky since I have to incorporate the exact right colors and textures so it feels boho and eclectic instead of chaotic.
This classic round metal end table brings sleek style to your living room, bedroom, or home office. It’s made of metal in the finish of your choice and features slim legs with lower crossbars for added stability. This versatile table can be used as an end table, plant stand, or as an alternative nightstand. It completes the look in any modern, bohemian, or glam setting.
Each coaster has a circular shape that's made from wood, and they showcase strips of rustic light brown wood in between marble-inspired panels for a mixed-material look we love.
This throws blanket softens any sofa or accent chair. It's handwoven with a blend of cotton and acrylic, and it features a classic striped design in a light-colored palette.
Bayside Cedar: A walk along the forest path right after the rain with refreshing notes of grapefruit, mandarin blossoms, and warm amber filling the air
This large headboard pillow can provide you with very sturdy and comfy back support when you sit up in bed for reading or TV watching. The puffy polyester fiberfill and tufted fabric buttons keep the shape of the backrest pillow from collapsing and deforming.
Luxury hand-knit vegan chenille throw blankets bring a sophisticated touch into your home.
When Decorating, Pay Attention To Color
Our bedding is an orange-salmon color, so when I saw these light orange throw pillows on Wayfair, I instantly had to have them! Same with this fun boho throw blanket which plays up the orange colors happening on the other side of the room.
Over the years I’ve been slowly swapping out our accent pieces to be gold — gold picture frames, a gold mirror, a gold bar cart stand. Having the same metal color throughout your home – not just the same room – is key for keeping everything looking consistent and elevated.
I found these fun gold side tables on Wayfair that were the perfect height for our couch and were literally so easy to put together. They took under 15 seconds each (score!)
Since their tops are round, I grabbed a round, gold tray for my coffee table as well to keep all the accents looking the same. I added in a new flower vase and also grabbed a candle since I love my home smelling nice.
I’m All About Comfort In Home Decor
Lastly, I knew I needed to get a lumbar support pillow. We have a standing desk that Robin and I share, but I also spend a lot of time working on the couch and the older I get, the more back support I need.
When I found these huge lumbar support pillow on Wayfair in a green shade, I was thrilled. It’s not the exact emerald green of our couch, but in the same color family so it was perfect.
Now I can pull that out when I am working on the couch to help give myself more back support!! I also grabbed a huge chunky throw blanket for those colder winter days. I’m all about comfort in my home decor.
Small Items, Big Impact With Wayfair
Refreshing our living room was the easiest home decor project in the history of our apartment. I turned on my current show, spent about an hour browsing Wayfair, added everything to cart and it all arrived within a week.
The side tables were super easy to set up and then everything else was just styling. No heavy lifting, no selling off furniture on marketplace, so rearranging anything.
I’ve been decorating spaces for years now but it always blows me away by how it really is all in the details, and just a few key items and totally transform a space.
If you’re in a need of a refresh, head to Wayfair.
