After my fall New England road trip last year, I’ve been falling hard for this corner of the United States. From postcard-perfect Vermont towns to coastal Maine fishing villages, the region is packed with charm—and some seriously cool places to stay.

Over the years I’ve tested plenty of rentals, and I can confirm that the right Airbnb can totally make the trip. Think cozy cabins with fireplaces, chic coastal cottages, and unique stays that feel nothing like a cookie-cutter hotel.

If you’re planning a trip and want an utterly unique New England Airbnb, this list rounds up my personal favorites across Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Connecticut.

FAQ About New England Airbnbs

Are Airbnbs in New England expensive?
It depends on the season. Fall foliage (September–October) and summer weekends are peak times, so expect higher rates. Winter and spring often have better deals, especially in coastal towns.

What’s the best time to book a New England Airbnb?
If you’re planning a fall foliage trip, book your Airbnb home at least 3–6 months in advance. For summer coastal rentals, aim for early spring. Winter cabins can usually be booked closer to your dates unless it’s near a ski resort.

Which states have the best Airbnbs in New England?
Vermont and Maine are packed with cozy cabins and unique rentals, but Massachusetts and Rhode Island shine for coastal escapes. New Hampshire has great ski chalets and houses, while Connecticut offers charming countryside cottages.

Are Airbnbs better than hotels in New England?
If you want space, privacy, and a local vibe, Airbnbs usually win for the bucket list factor . Hotels are great for short city stays, but vacation rentals give you the chance to live like a local (think farmhouses, seaside cottages, and mountain cabins.)
