For as long as I have been using makeup, I’ve known of Too Faced cosmetics. Particularly during the era of the Youtube makeup gurus, everyone was raving about the brand and how amazing their beauty products were. Their iconic bubblegum pink and gold packaging was like the candy aisle at Sephora and every girl wanted their products, especially the Born This Way foundation.
Unfortunately for me, when Too Faced was at their peak, I was still a high school student with no spare change to spend on high-end makeup products. While Too Faced isn’t AS expensive as other luxury brands like Dior or Chanel, it definitely isn’t as cheap as drugstore products and I wasn’t about to spend my hard-earned money on products I wasn’t sure I 100% needed.
That is until now. I finally am fulfilling my high school self’s dreams and testing out some of the most viral Too Faced products that had the Internet in a chokehold, from their Born This Way concealer to their Cloud Crush blushes.
I’m going to give you my honest opinion and let you in on what’s actually worth the price tag and what you can skip the next time you’re in stores.
Who is Too Faced?
Fun Fact: Too Faced has been around long before it ever went viral on social media, being founded in 1998 by co-founders Jerrod Blandino and Jeremy Johnson. Talk about a long history!
Too Faced brands itself as the “it” girl that everyone wanted to be friends with. The products boast fun and girly packaging with playful names like their cult favorite, the Better Than Sex mascara.
The brand is also cruelty free and vegan friendly (we love to see it). The real question is if the quality of their products matches their confident and fun attitude.
The Products I’ll Be Reviewing
The Too Faced products all sound amazing according to their product descriptions (and even some reviews online), BUT do they live up to their claims? I’ve listed which products I tested out (with links to shop) and the amazing properties they claim to possess to see if there is any truth to them.
- Born This Way Super Coverage Multi-Use Concealer: The concealer comes in 35 shades and offers full to medium coverage and hydration for all-day 12 hour wear.
- Cloud Crush Blush: This matte cushion blush comes in 6 shades of pinks and corals that leaves the cheeks with a matte air diffused finish.
- Kissing Jelly Lip Oil Gloss: This lip oil gloss hybrid leaves the lips feeling soft and looking shiny.
- Lip Injection Plumping Lip Gloss: This lip plumper instantly plumps the lips, while moisturizing and adding a glossy tint.
- Let’s Play Mini Eye Shadow Palette: The pocket-sized eye shadow palettes have 8 shades with matte, metallic, and shimmer finishes.
I’ll also be rating the products off of a few factors, including pigment/coverage, wearability throughout the day, and the price of the product in relation to its quality.
Born This Way Concealer
TheToo Faced Born This Way Concealer comes in 35 shades and offers full to medium coverage and hydration for all-day 12 hour wear.
Based on first impressions, the Too Faced Born This Way Concealer comes in one of the largest applicator bottles I have ever seen for a concealer. I actually quite like the large applicator brush because it gives ease of coverage if you have many areas on your face you like to cover.
I tested out the shade Warm Beige, which I quickly realized was not my correct shade. Nonetheless, I managed to blend it out, apply some powder and blush, and my skin looked very smooth. The concealer is full coverage so I wouldn’t use this for my natural everyday makeup, but it would be perfect if I was going for a more glam look.
Even though the concealer claims to be oil free, my T-zone did look a bit shiny a couple hours after application, so make sure to set the concealer with powder and reapply throughout the day.
The finish the concealer left is almost velvety smooth, but my skin still looks like skin. Don’t expect all your pores to magically disappear, but I was impressed with how easily the concealer blended out and how little you need to get a full coverage.
Cloud Crush Blush
The Too Faced Cloud Crush Brush is a matte cushion blush that comes in 6 shades of pinks and corals leaving the cheeks with a matte air diffused finish.
The Cloud Crush blush ranges in six shades from a light bubblegum pink to a bright fuschia.
I tried two different shades: Tequila Sunset, which is a muted peach, and Candy Clouds, a cool soft pink. Tequila Sunset would be better for those with warmer toned complexion, while Candy Clouds would be more suitable for those of you who have fair and cool toned skin.
The blushes are very pigmented so go in with a light hand and tap off the excess powder. Going in with a blush brush, lightly dip in the pan and blend on the high points of your cheek, blending upwards. If you would like more color on the cheeks, just go back into the pan and keep lightly applying layers until you’re satisfied with the look. You won’t need a lot of product since the blush is very easy to blend out.
Even though the price is steep for a blush, it will last you a very long time considering how little pigment you need to use with every application. The finish really does look airbrushed and blends flawlessly on the skin.
Kissing Jelly Lip Oil Gloss
The Too Faced Kissing Jelly Lip Gloss Oil is a lip oil, lip gloss hybrid that leaves the lips feeling soft and looking shiny.
If you like the look of lip gloss, but hate the sticky residue it leaves on your lips, the Kissing Jelly is a great alternative. I love my lip glosses, but hate the thick and goopy finish it often leaves on my lips. The Kissing Jelly is a unique hybrid of both oil and gloss that’ll give you the shine and also the hydration.
The glosses are infused with sunflower and jojoba oils, which explains why they feel so smooth on the lips. The closest comparison to the feeling of the gloss is that of Vitamin E oil, which if you’ve used, you’ll know how moisturizing it is.
Even though it claims to deliver 12-hour moisture, the Lip Jelly does start wearing off after a couple hours, so you should reapply throughout the day if you want that constant shine and moisture.
The Kissing Jelly comes in two different finishes: shimmer and shine. I tried one gloss of each and they taste just as delicious as they smell. The Pina Colada shade truly smells like its name and has a light yellow tint with gold shimmer.
Sweet Cotton Candy is a cool mint blue that’ll leave your lips shiny, but without the shimmer. Although the shades are a bright color in the bottle, they apply clear on the lips. I prefer Pina Colada since I love a little glitter in my glosses, but don’t worry, it doesn’t look overpowering and only leaves a subtle shimmer. Since the formula isn’t as thick as normal lip glosses, it’s not going to give you that super wet look on your lips, making it more suitable for everyday wear.
Lip Injection Plumping Lip Gloss (Maximum Plump)
The Too Faced Lip Injecting Lip Plumping Lip Gloss is a lip plumper that instantly plumps the lips, while moisturizing and adding a glossy tint.
On Too Faced’s lip plump comparison chart, Lip Injection Maximum Plump is the strongest plumper of the three they sell and why I was a bit nervous to test it on myself.
Within about a minute of the application, my lips began tingling, and after another couple minutes, my lips were burning. Imagine eating spicy food after rubbing toothpaste on your lips. A strong part of me wanted to wipe off the gloss, but I preserved through the uncomfortableness, and after a few minutes, the burning had completely disappeared.
Do I think the discomfort was worth it? Yes and no. My lips definitely looked slightly more full, but that’s because they were irritated so much by the gloss that they swelled up (which is how lip plumpers work). I imagine that you’d have to reapply throughout the day to keep the fullness, but I wouldn’t recommend doing this since you’d have to continually irritate your lips.
Instead, I would wipe the gloss off and line your lips with a lip liner and other lip products to keep the shape. You can also just leave the plumper on after the burning sensation fades because the gloss itself feels and looks just like a regular lip gloss. It’s also infused with avocado and vitamin E oil, so it shouldn’t be harmful to leave on for too long.
I personally have never had any interest in plumping my lips, but I can see how this can be useful for those looking for more pouty lips. If you are also concerned about the irritation, you can opt for their level 1 lip plumper or level 2 lip injection extreme lip plumper for a less intense plump.
Let’s Play Mini Eye Shadow Palette
The Too Faced Let's Play Mini Eye Shadow Palette are pocket-sized eye shadow palettes that have 8 shades with matte, metallic, and shimmer finishes.
Compact to fit in the palm of your hand, this palette is perfect to throw into your purse and take on the go.
I absolutely love the unique packaging, with the top cover of the palette designed to look like a game controller. The tin of the palette itself also feels very high quality because it’s made of a sturdy metal. Bonus, there is a mirror on the inside, which is an absolute must when it comes to travel size eyeshadow palettes.
As for the colors in the palette, there is a perfect mix of shimmers and mattes so you can create a plethora of girly and romantic makeup looks. The colors are warm toned with peaches, champagnes, and mauves so this palette might be better for those with a warm complexion.
The shadows do have quite a bit of fall out, so make sure to tap off the excess before applying. You also don’t need to dip heavy into the pan since the colors are very pigmented and less shadow on your brush will make it much easier to blend out on your eyelids.
Also for a heads up to those sensitive to fragrances in makeup, the palette claims to smell like bubblegum. I didn’t notice too much of a bubble gum scent when I gave my palette a sniff, but there was definitely a light sweet aroma coming from the palette. I personally didn’t mind the smell since I only noticed it when I had the palette an inch from my nose, and you don’t smell it at all when applied on the face.
So is Too Faced Worth it?
Overall, I was thoroughly impressed with the range of products and how much they lived up to their hype. My favorite products were the Cloud Crush Blush and Let’s Play Eye Shadow Palette, both of which are going to join my everyday makeup routine.
Too Faced does pressed powders extremely well and I was blown away by how pigmented and easy they were to blend out. The rest of the products will be joining my approved makeup collection and I can’t wait to try out what other products they have to offer. So is Too Faced as good as people says it is? Our verdict: yes!
