I’ll be the first to shout “anyone can wear any type of swimsuit they want!” so I want to kick this post off by making it clear: wear anything that you like wearing.
That being said, I personally know that I have certain colors and cuts of swimwear that I just like better and that I think fit my body better than other swimsuits.

What Is A Pear Body Shape Type?
As a pear body type, I think we’re pretty dang cute. We have big butts and tighs, usually narrow waists (the fit pear girlies will have killer abs!) small to medium busts or upper body, and narrow shoulders.
Basically – the widest point on our body is our hips. I have a big butt, a large stomach but this waist that is always snatched in even when I don’t try.
When dressing, it can be hard to find something that fits pear shapes well since my waist is much more narrow than my hips and that can be hard for designers to nail. Often bottoms are either too tight at the hips but too loose at the waist.
Best Style Of Swimsuit For Pear Shapes
When it comes to bathing suits, I’ve worn everything under the sun but these are the things I look for in swimwear to look and feel my best.
I tend to gravitate towards:
- High waisted bikini bottoms: these rid above my belly button and sit at my narrow waist to add more curves to my figure, plus keep everything in. These are also the best bikini for hourglass shapes, too!
- One piece swimsuits: Pear shaped bodies always look great in a one piece since it smooths over the figure line. Plus, they’re just comfy.
- Longer Bikini Tops: I love a tiny bikini top, but ones that extend a few inches down my torso do look best as my bust is smaller and this helps even out the lines to draw attention to my whole figure instead of one area. But, not tankinis!
For example, in all these photos I’m wearing this green one piece, this pink high waisted bikini bottom and this blue bikini that has tons of top support. They all are my current faves!
And tend to stay away from:
- Very low bikini bottoms: I have a big butt and big tummy and low cuts make odd lines on my body figure.
- Bows/Belts: sometimes swimsuits, mostly one pieces, come with bows or belts that always hit too high or too low on my waist.

Hey, you can’t go to the beach without a good cover-up! When looking for cover-ups, I lean towards linen pants to avoid chub rub, long dresses or long kimonos to quickly throw on.
