I’m obsessed with cool hotels, so when I saw that Bunk Hotel Amsterdam is inside an old church converted to a boutique hotel and hostel, I immediately booked it.
I had another motive, too. Robin and I were visiting Amsterdam during Kings Day Weekend, and the height of tulip season, and I didn’t want to be anywhere near downtown and have to stay up until 3am as the locals keep the party going in the streets.
But, over in Noord just 1 train stop from Central Station is Bunk Hotel, a little haven for us to retreat to each evening.
Bunk is a hotel in a church! This hotel highlights the church's original architecture and quirks, featuring high ceilings, open terraces, sweeping canal views and airy lofts. Complete with hotel rooms, pods in a hostel dorm room, a library, a restaurant and bar.
Why You’ll Want To Book Bunk Hotel
So, this hotel has all the vibes. There’s a giant dinosaur in the lobby to greet you when you walk in, hip decor, moody lights and a self check-in to quickly get you into your room.
We booked a standard hotel room, but Bunk gets its name from the bunk pods it also offers. Most of the hotel comprises of dorm rooms with luxury pods complete with blackout curtains. The shared bathrooms are always clean, come with a towel and are stocked with organic soaps.
They wanted to reinvent a hostel and nailed it. But we’re in our 30’s and way past the hostel days, no matter how high end.
Instead, we booked a private room. I loved the color changing lights and quirky decor, like a little Donald Trump poster near the door. Our room had tall ceilings and you could totally feel the charm of the church coming out here.
The Food At Bunk Is Amazing
Amsterdam was our first stop in our month in Europe and we were starving when we checked in. Plus, needed a coffee to beat jet lag. I was so happy to find that the restaurant in Bunk is really tasty.
For breakfast, when we had it at the hotel, we were treated to Dutch pancakes, loxs, banana breads, lattes and yogurt with fruit. Lunch one day we had short rib (yum!) and Flammkuchen. We even got a late snack on Kings Day when we needed fries and a night cap to wind down from the party.
We loved our stay at Bunk hotel and would totally book it again. Even though it’s not in Amsterdam Central, it never felt far away. The affordable price, great restaurant and cool decor make it absolutely worth it to book on your next trip to Amsterdam.
