I think we can all agree that nobody likes putting even more plastic & chemicals on their body, or into the water system that we already do on a regular basis.
When it came time to decide on what cleaning products we were going to use in our new Airbnb, Whimsy Homes, I knew I wanted eco friendly cleaning products, but I also needed something that actually cleaned. (Instead of just mask surfaces with a good herbal natural smell).
I kept getting served ads for Blueland, a company that claims to “creates everyday eco-friendly cleaning products to save you money and space, without any plastic waste.” So, I bought a bunch of products and have been using them in our Airbnb for a year.
After a thorough rest, this is what I really think about the brand and if they are worth the purchase (or not!)
About Blueland Cleaning Products
Blueland was founded by Sarah Paiji Yoo, a Korean-American mother who was (rightfully) freaked out by the sheer amount of microplastics we put into our water systems every day. It’s in everything: from hand soaps to lotion to foods.
So, she started Blueland, the company that ensures “reusable packaging that are convenient, effective and affordable.”
They sell everything from cleaning starter kits to foaming hand soaps, reusable bottles, bathroom cleaners, dish soap, laundry tablets, and more.
Just what I needed for my cabin!! Sustainability is a huge factor we considered when designing the place and it felt like Blueland was just what we needed!
What Blueland Products I Bought
I opted for a cleaner starter kit, since you get a discount on cleaning supplies and get all the clean essentials you need, like their spray bottles, tins and hand soap containers.

Blueland Smells Ridiculously Good
My Clean Suite Kit arrived and I was immediately impressed by the scent options. Scent is important (hey, we put a Pura device in the cabin for a reason).
Blueland has scents like Iris Agave, Perrine Lemon, Lavender Eucalyptus, Evergreen, Pacific Mist, and Fragrance-Free for anyone who can’t handle the extra scents.
They also sometimes do collabs and special collections of scents, like with National Parks or creators.
Blueland operates on tablets that you dissolve with water. They come in paper and this is how they can be plastic-free. I immediately popped a Zion-scented hand soap tab in a dispenser, added water and washed my hands. “Ya, that smells good” – me, after washing my hands with Blueland.
Blueland Hand Soap Review
I won’t lie, I wasn’t a fan of the foaming soap at first. I kept accidentally sprayed it all over myself when washing my hands and it has a different feel than thicker soap.
But that discomfort was just all because I’ve ever used a foaming soap like this before. It’s lighter (you know, foam) but it packs just as big of a cleaning punch as the thicker soaps. Soon, I got used to it and actually loved the foaming soap more. It doesn’t leave gross plops of thick soap that dry on the sink counter.
The only downside for my cabin is, it was hard for our cleaner to keep the soaps topped up. She needs to refill and top of hand soaps, and that just wasn’t sustainable when you need to use a whole new tab every time. So, we switched her to a traditional liquid hand soap so she could make sure our guests always had enough to use.
But, that’s a unique case problem. For regular users, you’ll love the foaming hand soap. I switched us over at our apartment and we use the extra tabs we bought for the cabin since I’m ok waiting until the soap is all gone to refill it (unless paying guests who shouldn’t be expected to do that themselves!)

Blueland Laundry Detergent Review
The biggest question mark is the laundry detergent tablets. We were told by our septic guy that we need to stop using plastic pods for the laundry and dishwasher since it was building up too much in our mountain septic.
But does a tab work as well? Turns out, yes. It washes things just as well as liquid laundry detergent but doesn’t clog our spetic with plastic.
I also love how it prevents guests from using too much detergent, and issue I’ve been told other vacation rental hosts have. It comes with a cute little tin we leave by the laundry machine and guests love how easy it is to use the tabs, too. Just pop in the clothes and a tab! No measuring anything out.
Same thing with dishwasher pods – we use Blueland for our dishwasher and they clean dishes well, and never leave guests wondering how much liquid to put in the machine.

Blueland Surface Cleaner Review
The cleaning suite item we use the most is the mutli-surface cleaner. We wanted to make sure we left our guests with a good solution for cleaning counters after cooking, but I don’t like how heavily scented most of the major cleaning brands are. (I like the smell of flowers or lemons, not bleach!)
I also don’t like the plastic they require and let’s face it, their bottle just aren’t cute. So, we use the surface cleaner and also glass cleaner in case we need to wipe down mirrors or windows.
I love them. They last a while considering guests use them every stay, and are super easy for our team to replace and refill. I use this at home, too!
I opted not to get their Toilet Bowl Cleaner Starter Set since I knew our cleaning team already had their go-to cleaner for toilet bowls, but this kit includes a storage tin and tablets so you can easily drop them in a toilet bowl, scrub and be clean!
It has such great reviews, I’m thinking about trying it at my apartment.

Is Blueland Worth It? Final Verdict.
Overall, yes – Blueland provides great value for price point, the products clean well, smells great, and I love knowing I’m not putting more plastic right into the water systems (or my body).
That being said, it’s not as great of a solution for a vacation rental as I thought. We love the dishwasher and laundry tablets to make it easy for guests to use. It all smells great and we love the sleek, reusable bottles. But we sleep up to 9 people and just plow through hand soap, so we had to swap to a liquid that is easier for our team to top up instead of full replacing at each booking.
Otherwise, I love this brand and will keep using them in the cabin along with my San Francisco apartment!!
