The internet is going crazy over the lavender skort Taylor Swift wore in a teaser video for her new album. Surprisingly, I’d seen this skort before and even considered buying one for myself. So I took this as my sign to see what the hype is all about.
To no surprise, Swiftie or not, everyone is searching for this skirt. The brand, Popflex, and designer, Cassey Ho (@blogilates) are ecstatic (rightfully so!) to be the new viral sensation.
And I’m not usually one to follow celebrity fashion, but I love athleisure! Especially now that I’m back in Texas, I’ve already bought into the skort trend with two in my closet from Girlfriend (a Whimsy Soul fave!) that I love so why not add another?
Wait, What is the Taylor Swift Pickleball Skirt? And Why Is It Trending?
Leading up to the midnight release of her newest album, The Tortured Poets Department which turned into a 2 a.m. surprise double album, Taylor shared a YouTube Short featuring a rare peek into the songwriters’ life challenging followers to share a “fortnight” recap as well.
Snippets of the video include her cooking with her football star boyfriend, Travis Kelce, crafting, her cats and most importantly (to this article at least) playing pickleball in a lavender ballet-esque ruffled skirt.
Sarah Chapelle (@taylorswiftstyled) immediately tracked down not only the skort, but nearly every piece of clothing Taylor’s wearing from those clips.
Within 15-minutes of the video release, the skort was completely sold out – at least in the “Digital Lavender” color that Taylor wore, or should I say “Lavender Haze’? I think what really caught everyone by surprise was it wasn’t some exclusive, expensive piece of clothing. Less than $100 and available online for anyone to match with their favorite pop star. She really is just like us!
Not only that, the skirt is super cute and incredibly practical. This is actually the second iteration of Popflex’s Pirouette Skirt. Improvements were made to the original design of the ruffled skirt to make it even more flattering and comfortable.
The Taylor Swift Pickleball Skirt Is From Popflex, My New Fave Activewear Brand
The skirt can only be found in one place: popflexactive.com. The Pirouette Skort by active wear brand, Popflex, comes in 11 different colors, and sizes XXS-3X. It’s a high rise skirt with built-in shorts, pockets and an adjustable waist. While it is on pre-order in the now viral Digital Lavender color, there’s still some sizes available in other colors!
One of the improvements made from the first iteration was removing the seam from the built-in shorts so it’s anti-camel toe. It provides medium compression designed for low to medium impact workouts like pickleball. Personally, I’m drawn to skorts for weekend adventures and long walks where the built in shorts can prevent any chaffing!
I think the reason I tend to avoid celebrity fashion trends is fit. Like, of course, this skirt looks fab on Taylor Swift, but would it look good on me? Here’s my review after trying the skirt!
To My Surprise, The Viral Taylor Swift Popflex Skort Actually Fits Curvy Women
My first impressions of the skort upon arrival were I was impressed with the feel of the fabric. The material is made of a mix of polyester and spandex, so I wasn’t sure how it would feel, which is super important to me with any type of clothing.
The fabric on the twirly part of the skirt is soft and stretchy, not itchy at all like I thought it might be. It’s definitely a bit more compressive than your typical loungewear, so good for medium-impact activities. While the sizing did initially feel true to size, I have some thoughts on it.
Popflex Pirouette Skirt: How It Fits My Curvy Midsize Body
The key thing about the viral Taylor Swift skirt is I don’t have the Taylor Swift body. I set low expectations because of course it looks good on her.So is it cute, or is she skinny?
And for me, the skirt is CUTE on any size body. They have good representation on the site of different sized bodies, so I felt good going into it and it’s super cute and comfortable IRL. HOWEVER, I think I could have sized up for a couple reasons:
- The wide band is awesome, but it’s definitely rolls down at the top (iykyk).
- I wish the “high waist” hit me a little higher. It would be more flattering if it hit me at my smallest like it does on Taylor.
I bought an XL which is true to size for me, and I typically wear between a 14-16 in pants. If I were to buy this skirt again, I would probably size up one for the potential of a higher waist, but not sure if that would work or not!
Final Verdict: Popflex Is Worth the Hype for Curvy Midsize Folks!
To answer the question, YES absolutely. It’s super cute despite the flaws I listed above. I wore it all afternoon and evening – it was super comfy and I didn’t feel restricted whatsoever.
That said, I think those with a longer torso might struggle with the skirt fitting a curvy midsize body. Sizing up might help the skirt hit me at the waist, but I can’t say that for someone with a long torso it would do the same.
How To Style The Taylor Swift Pickleball Skirt
As for styling the skirt, it’s fairly versatile. You can easily go from a sporty look at a yoga class to a casual coffee date, or even dress it up to wear for a night on the town. Here are a five ways I could see the skirt styled.
1. Taylor Swift’s Iconic Look Is Girlie And Chic
Of course, we got to style it like the queen herself. She paired her lavender skort with a white tank and brown sunglasses. I added a few accessories to complete the look too! An initial necklace, T for Taylor (as in the Taylor writing this article), a Baggu Crescent bag and Hokas.
2. You Can Rock A Monochrome Look To Look Timeless
I love a monochrome moment and I think this could be easily achieved with this skirt. Top it with a cute jacket and sandals, and done! You could also achieve it with a matching set too.
3. Add a Cute Quarter Zip For Chilly Mornings
Pair the ruffle skirt with a cute quarter zip sweater, sneaker and cute socks. Super easy way to dress it up a little. Perfect little WFH outfit too!
4. Top It With A Classic Jean Jacket To Look More Street Style
Nothing is more classic than pairing the pirouette skirt with a jean jacket and white tee shirt. If you wanna go for the full western cowgirl look, add a pair of boots!
5. Get It In A Different Color (Like Mine!) So You Look More Original
And last but not least, if you’re looking to buy the pirouette skort, but lavender isn’t your color. Buy it in another color! That’s how I was able to get it so fast, and honestly I will get way more wear in this color!
Relaxed fit long sleeve linen button down ethically woven from 100% European flax linen. Super breathable, durable and lightweight.
