I’ve always loved perfume. I’m the type of person to use scent to fortify memories. For instance, there’s a specific perfume I wore all through 2019, and when I smell it I immediately think of all the adventures i had that year.
But, after 2020 events, long are the days of heading into a department store and sampling perfumes in person. After a few failed blind purchases of full-size bottles online, It was time to finally try out a perfume subscription service.
I tried out Scentbird. If you are also curious what this fragrance subscription is like, and if they’re worth it (or are just another fail), keep on reading!
Is Scentbird Legit? I Tried Their Perfume, Here’s My Verdict ( Scentbird Reviews 2021)
As a low-key perfume addict, I do love Scentbird’s business model. A new scent every month? That means, in theory, I can always have a new smell based on my mood, or maybe I can even find my signature scent. I was absolutely curious if I would like the box in reality. Here’s Scentbird at a glance:
How Does Scentbird Work?
Scentbird subscription provides a monthly shipment of designer fragrances, that arrive in small sample sizes that supposedly are a 30 day supply, or 60 sprays. The first month of subscription boxes contain a perfume container, the remaining ongoing new scents shipped are the refills. Yes – Scentibird is refillable to be more sustainable!
It cost $15.95 per month for one new scent. First order is $11.95 with this link! You can also opt for a cologne of the month if you are looking for Scentbird for men! You’ll fill out a scent profile survey and the system will suggest perfumes for you. Ultimately, you get to choose what you want to try out and they’ll ship it you!
You can set your new fragrances in advance, so you can go in February and decide what perfume you are wearing every month until August, if you wanted to.

A Deeper Dive On What To Expect With Scentbird Boxes
Scentbird’s Quiz Is Very Accurate
Scentbird’s quiz is short but yet detailed and accurate on what fragrances I like best.I was super surprised by this. I took the survey and it knew I preferred warmer/darker scents with notes of wood, spices and florals. It then suggests a shortlist of 6 perfumes it thinks I would like.
I’m not very familiar with all the top designer scents of the year, so this really helped me narrow down what new fragences to try out blindly. plus, the Scentbird perfume list is really long and I didn’t know where to start on my own. What I ended up getting in my first box was so spot on to something I feel like I would have picked out for myself.
Scentbird Fragrance Lists Are Detailed
The hardest part of ordering perfume online is you can’t smell it. The get around this, Scentbird does a fantastic job at not only describing the mood and the scents, but providing icons so you can quickly glance at the scent notes. This helps a user like myself, who isn’t going in with designer fragrances in mind already, to feel confident enough to try out.
Scentbird Boxes Packaging Is Minimal
I can’t decide if I liked the minimal packaging or not. All that comes with in the envelope is the refillable canister loaded with a scent, which is packaged in a drawstring back. I also got a couple cards, one telling me about the perfume another with info on how Scentbird works.
I appreciated the cutbacks on paper and plastic, making it more environmentally friendly. It did lack that flair I would like to see alongside a designer fragrance, but then again I did only order a sample size of it.
You Can Buy Full-Size Bottles
If you fall in love with a scent, it’s easy to buy full size bottles directly from Scentbird in your next shipment! As i mentioned above, I love using smell to help make memories, so having more but smaller perfume bottles helps me pull this off better.
Example – I chose a specific Scentbird perfume to wear only during my trip to Portugal this summer and now when I smell that fragrance, I think of my time there. But, I know some people use a subscription box to test out all the scents at home in order to find their signature. Being able to buy fullsize bottles is helpful.
Are Scentbird Perfumes Authentic?
100% authentic scents! They work directly with the brands so source the samples. Is Scentbird watered down? Nope! I can attest my perfume was strong and definitely not watered down, and again, they work with the brands directly instead of a 3 party to ensure quality.
Scentbird Perfumes Are Bigger Than Store Samples
On the note about working with brands directly, my first question was: well, will the perfume I get scent be literally the same size as the free samples you can get in store or in Sephora orders? Scentbird samples are .27 oz each and in general, the free samples you can request at Sephora are around .05 oz.
So Scentbird is large and will last you longer. They say a 30 day supply but I found mine lasting more like 20 days, as don’t apply just 1-2 sprays per day. I apply my scents on both my wrists and my neck. But some people will get their Scentbird to last longer!
Is Scentbird Worth It?
Is Scentbird worth it? Yes – if you love perfumes, you should try this out over the course of a few months at least. You’ll get to try out a bunch of new scents and either discover what notes you are drawn to (fresh, woody, floral, etc) or you’ll find your forever fragrance.
But, it is an added cost that you can in theory get for free if you go into stores like Nordstrom of Sephora a lot. You can request up to 3 FREE scent samples at Sephora at each visit so you could instead get more perfumes to try and totally for free, instead of paying $15 a month for one larger sample.
But then you have to go and talk to people, I really enjoy not having to leave my house.
I think you guys will be happy with Scentbird. They also have gift subscriptions so you can gift a loved one a 3 month subscription of scents, which is super fun and thoughtful.
Have you tried Scentbird? Leave a comment below, I’d love to hear your thoughts! I also tried Scentbox so I could compare the two (this post will be updated when that review goes live!)

I totally love Scentbird! You can also change the frequency of subscription or even cancel it right from their app. Although I haven’t compared Scentbird with any others, I feel confident that my money was well spent with Scentbird.
I tried Scentbird. It’s okay. I was introduced to new scents however they DON’T ALLOW you to repeat a favorite scent!
wait really?? you can’t re-order a scent? That’s stupid. Thank you for sharing!
Hi, that isn’t true. I repeat Versace bright crystal every 3 months.
i wasn’t able to see where you can purchase full size (presentation) bottles on the app . any advice?
I love scentbird and I like the blog alot too. Hopefully I can come across this one again or maybe you can tell me how to make sure I do lol.
I am not tech savvy at all.
Thanks for sharing
I really enjoy looking forward to a new scent each month . I’ve been a member for about four months and I absolutely love it. Haven’t gotten a bad scent yet it’s amazing.q
A big hassle to get your monthly subscription! I’ve had to send a ton of emails and practically beg for my scents to be shipped every month but of course my payment is taken out promptly! Customer service is horrible! Definitely would not recommend !!!
Scentbird has good and bad advantages. They have wonderful scents for you to try, but you can’t get it back to back if you fall in love with it. I’m a perfume hog. I love to spray it on different parts of the body, but I now know I’ll have to refrain from doing so. It doesn’t last 30 days as it says. It’s hard to find the scent you want on different outlet websites. On Scentbird the premium scents they have cost over $100 which I can’t afford if you want the full bottle. Big disadvantage. Maybe one day I’ll be able to afford the 3 scents subscription. We’ll see.
I had a subscription with Scentbird and they sent me Dolce and Gabbana and Juicy Coulture. My Dolce and Gabbana worked fine but my Juicy Coulture was damaged. I haven’t been able to use it and I wasn’t able to get in touch with customer service so that was money wasted. I canceled my subscription and I really wouldn’t recommend this to anyone. Sorry
you need to send a support message within 30 days they replaced my July sub fragrances within 10 days when mine arrived damaged
