I first met Vacation’s Classic Whip SPF 50 in the Maldives on a media trip last year, and it wasn’t love at first sight. My friend Kate kept pulling this can out of her bag, and I honestly thought she’d smuggled whipped cream into her carry-on. Random, I thought.
Then, right before a two-hour whale shark tour, I watched her spray a cloud of it onto her arm and rub it in, and it clicked: that’s sunscreen.
The Maldives has brutal UV, we’re talking a UV index of 90 some days, so you need something serious, and reapplication isn’t optional. I borrowed a little from Kate that day, went snorkeling, came back without a single burn, and spent the rest of the trip smelling like a five-star resort. I was hooked before we even got back to the dock.
This summer I bought my own stash and tested four products from the Vacation Inc. lineup:
- the Classic Whip SPF 50
- the Super Spritz SPF 50 face spray
- the Orange Gelée SPF 30
- Chardonnay Oil SPF 30.
Here’s my honest Vacation sunscreen review, product by product, including what I loved, what I didn’t, and who each one is actually for.
Quick Verdict
If you want the best sunscreen for a matte, no-grease finish, get the Classic Whip. If you want the best facial sunscreen to layer over makeup, the Super Spritz face mist wins.
If you want something that smells incredible and makes you feel a little glamorous while you tan, the Orange Gelée and Chardonnay Oil are worth the splurge; just know they lean oily. None of these are cheap sunscreen brands, they run $22 to $44, but I’d repurchase every single one.
Vacation Classic Whip SPF 50 Review
This is the one that started it all for me, and it’s easily one of my favorite scented sunscreen finds of the year. It comes out of the can like actual whipped cream (still funny to me every time), and when you rub it in it turns into this dry, almost shaving-cream texture. It’s silky, not greasy, and it dries down matte.
My husband Robin is one of those people who avoids sunscreen because he hates the greasy feel, so I’m always hunting for something he’ll actually wear. This passed the test. I’m wearing it right now while I type this, all over my hands (I’m obsessive about hand aging), and I can’t feel it on my keyboard at all.
It’s scented too, a beachy coconut scent with ocean air underneath. It’s not overpowering. Worth it if: you hate the greasy sunscreen feel and want something you’ll actually reapply without complaining.
Skip it if: you want zero scent, since this one is noticeable. $23 for 4 oz.
Vacation Super Spritz SPF 50 Face Spray Review
I always have a facial sunscreen spray in my purse, year-round, and this has become one of my go-to’s alongside my Supergoop and Saie tinted options. This is the best sunscreen for face if you want something you can spritz over makeup without disturbing it.
The bottle is generously sized for a face mist, dries matte, and doesn’t trigger breakouts on me. I keep it in my bag and reapply every couple hours when I’m out in the sun. One bottle has lasted me a solid month of near-daily use, so cost per use is actually pretty reasonable even with the higher price tag.
If you’re building out a rotation of best facial sunscreen picks, this earns a spot. Vacation also sells a six-pack of 1 oz travel minis for $44, which is a smart buy if you want one for your bag, your car, and your gym bag without committing to full sizes.
Vacation Orange Gelée SPF 30 Review
Okay, this one I screamed about a little. Orange Gelée isn’t a new Vacation invention, it’s a revival of a sunscreen that dates back to 1926, originally trademarked by a French hairstylist named Antoine who wanted his clients to get that bronzed Riviera look.
It got discontinued in 2019, and Vacation brought it back in 2024. It even won an Allure Best of Beauty award. I’m a sucker for a brand with actual history, and this one has receipts.
It’s bright orange, has this distinct clove, bergamot, and lemon scent, and it leaves your skin shiny in a very “I’m about to order champagne poolside” way.
I usually reach for sprays, but I keep grabbing this one because it just makes me feel cute and a little vintage. I’ve gotten compliments pulling it out of my bag more than once.
Here’s the honest caveat: this isn’t a matte formula. It leaves your skin moisturized and shiny, so if you hate that greasy look, use the Whip instead. It’s also pricier than drugstore suntan creams at $23 for 3.12 oz, but I don’t think you’re paying for the SPF here, you’re paying for the whole vibe.
Vacation Chardonnay Oil SPF 30 Review
I’m about as pale as it gets. I’m the color of printer paper, and if I do manage a tan, it fades in about a day. I normally avoid tanning oils entirely because I don’t want to speed up sun damage, but I tested this one for three days straight on my back deck at noon.
I’ll be upfront here because I don’t want to oversell it: this is an SPF 30 oil, which is lower protection than the SPF 50 options in this lineup. Lower SPF means more UV reaches your skin, which is exactly why oils like this help you tan faster, it’s not some special ingredient doing the work, it’s just basic sunscreen physics.
That also means you burn faster if you’re not careful, so I wouldn’t use this as your only protection on a long beach day. I layered it over a higher SPF and only used it in short, watched sessions.
That said, it made my legs noticeably more moisturized all day, and I did get a visibly deeper tan on the days I used it versus the days I didn’t. It’s made from chardonnay grapeseed oil and smells effervescent, almost like the inside of a wine bar.
If you want one of the best suntan creams for controlled, short sun sessions, this delivers, just don’t skip your actual SPF underneath. $22 for the bottle.
Is There a Vacation Sunscreen Perfume?
Yes, and it’s a fun detail if you love this scent as much as I do. Vacation makes a Gelée Eau de Toilette that’s meant to smell like the original 1994 Orange Gelée formula.
If you’re a Vacation sunscreen perfume person who wants that beachy smell without the SPF, that’s the one to look at. I haven’t tested the actual perfume myself, so I can’t give you a full review there, just flagging that it exists for anyone searching for it.
What About a Vacation Lotion?
I didn’t personally test Vacation’s Classic Lotion SPF 30, which retails around $15 and is their more traditional cream format. If you’re specifically looking for the best lotion option in this lineup rather than a whip, spray, or oil, that’s the one I’d point you toward, though I can’t vouch for texture or wear time firsthand yet.
Vacation Sunscreen FAQ
Is Vacation sunscreen actually good?
Based on my testing this summer, yes. The Classic Whip and Super Spritz are well-formulated for people who hate greasy sunscreen, and the Orange Gelée and Chardonnay Oil deliver on scent and vibe even if they’re not the most practical everyday options.
Is Vacation sunscreen reef safe?
Vacation lists its products as reef safe and Leaping Bunny certified across the line, meaning they’re formulated without common reef-harming ingredients and aren’t tested on animals.
Does Vacation sunscreen smell like alcohol or feel sticky?
No. Every product I tested dried down either matte (Classic Whip, Super Spritz) or with a deliberate shine (Orange Gelée) but none of them felt sticky or left an alcohol smell. The only product that does leave you feeling oily is the Chardonnay Oil but that’s because it’s a literal oil.
What’s the best Vacation sunscreen for your face?
The Super Spritz SPF 50 face spray is my pick. It layers over makeup without disturbing it and dries matte.
Is Vacation sunscreen worth the price?
If budget’s tight, the Classic Whip and Super Spritz are the ones I’d prioritize since you’ll use them daily. The Orange Gelée and Chardonnay Oil are more of a treat purchase, but I don’t regret buying either one. Prices reflect what I paid as of summer 2026, so double check current pricing before you buy.
My Final Verdict On Vacation Sunscreen
Out of everything I tried, the Classic Whip SPF 50 is my daily driver and the one I’d tell a friend to buy first. The Super Spritz earns a permanent spot in my purse. The Orange Gelée and Chardonnay Oil are more special occasion than everyday, but they made this whole review a lot more fun to write, and my skin never once felt neglected.
