NOT ME, NOT HERMIONE – YOU.
If you’re a Harry Potter fan on TikTok this year, you probably have seen this audio clip of the movie go viral where Ron says that classic “NOT ME, NOT HERMIONE – YOU!” line right before playing that game of real-life Wizard’s Chess. That scene cracks me up every time.
After seeing it on my FYP at least 20 times I decided it was a sign to craft one of my next Harry Potter-inspired cocktails in honor of this ridiculous scene.’ Tis the season for Wizarding World movie marathons, after all. We need a new Harry Potter cocktail to sip while we watch.
Last year, we loved coming up with Harry Potter-inspired cocktails and wanted to make at least one new one for this holiday season. My husband and I came up with a unique twist on the Negroni, a classic cocktail that traditionally uses one ounce gin, one ounce sweet vermouth and one ounce Campari, typically with an orange twist or orange peel to top.
It’s a super popular cocktail that I remember having for the first time in some bar in New York. We felt that the sophistication of a Negroni matched the vibe of playing chess. Well – human chess, that is. Wizard’s Chess is a bit wilder, especially a life-size version of the game. But we aimed for making something new you probably haven’t seen before.
Boulevardier vs Negroni
Thus, the whiskey cherry Negroni was born, which is probably technically more of a cherry Boulevardier. (A Boulevardier cocktail is just a classic Negroni recipe with bourbon or whiskey instead of gin.) But I didn’t know that until I Googled “Negroni with Bourbon”.
Anyways, we used Dewar’s White Label Scotch as a nod to Hogwart’s since it’s located in Scotland. You can use Bourbon, Whiskey or Scotch – whichever you have on hand or is your favorite!
The only mildly hard part here is making the cream rim. If you’re in a rush, you can skip it but we think it adds the perfect creamy cherry flavor notes to the drink, making it extra special and unique.
To make the cream, just whisk together cherry juice or Liqueur heavy cream and sugar until it’s thick. can use Liqueur or cherry juice. The liqueur will make it slightly more bitter and strong, while the juice will make the drink taste sweeter and more cherry-like. It’ll also make your rim pink instead of white, like a chess piece. Both are tasty options thought!
The Wizard Chess: A Whiskey Cherry Negroni Cocktail Recipe
