After my summer living in Copenhagen, I’ve fallen absolutely in love with Scandi-style decor.
Mostly because it’s not at all how Americans usually translate. Scandi decor isn’t all white and bare (that’s more minimal). It’s actually very cozy, full of textures, organic materials and yes – color. In the right places.
As I’m building my new cabin in California out, I’ve been hunting for eclectic pieces but also Nordic brands to style in the space. These are all my favorite Scandinavian home decor brands to shop pieces from – big and small and on all ranges of budgets.
Yes – you can find affordable Danish furniture brands, I promise!! Some do run very expensive.
I remember walking into a high-end Scandinavian furniture store in Copenhagen and walking right back out when I saw a single dining chair listed for more than my monthly rent in San Francisco.
But they aren’t all going to bleed your bank accounts dry. You can find some dang amazing Scandinavian decor brands that tie your whole space together on budget.
What Is Scandinavian Home Decor?
Before we dive into my list of favorite places to shop to get the look, let’s touch on what exactly Nordic and Scandi style is. I have a whole guide on how to get the Scandi style with more details, but keep this in mind:
Scandinavian design is all about function AND style. It’s clean lines, a lack of clutter and things that work with a purpose on top of looking nice.
It’s a focus on organic/natural materials, plants, cozy textures like rugs and throws, clean lines, soft lighting, pops of color with neutrals and probably a Matisse print or two.

If I won the lottery, my entire apartment would be HAY. When I lived in Copenhagen I literally spent 4 hours in the store there! I love the colorful take on home decor and how they elevate ordinary household items. HAY has definitely earned its spot among the top Danish design companies.
A lot of their products have Japandi touches, which is a mix of Japanese and Scandinavian interior design styles. HAY offers everything from furniture and kitchenware to linens and their own coffee table book. Their rendition of the viral mushroom lamp is a great and affordable starter piece into Scandi design!
Nordic Nest is a one-stop shop for Scandi home decor! They offer a collection of over 100 Scandi and Nordic interior design brands, ranging from more well-known ones like HAY and Ferm Living to smaller specialty brands like ester & erik, which specializes in candles and candleware. Nordic Nest is also super informative and offers Scandi home decor ideas and tips.
According to their poster/artwork section, this Swimmers print from Swedish studio Fine Little Day is their most popular. (Also available as a sweet cushion cover.) Plus, they have a killer sale section and weekly specials so you can snag your dream decor for up to 60% off! This set of 4 iittala wine glasses are 25% off right now and are a great way to elevate your wine experience, Scandi style.
Though it’s an American brand, Arhaus was created with Scandinavia in mind. (Its name is inspired by the Danish city Aarhus!) Operating with an emphasis on sustainability, Arhaus offers home decor that doesn’t source from endangered rainforests and contains about 50% recycled materials.
Among their new arrivals is a spring leather furniture line that channels such classic Scandi design with clean lines and functional structure. The Fresno nubuck swivel chair will add simple luxury to any living room or office! If you’re prone to spills or messes, take advantage of their Worry-Free customer service protection plan—it covers accidental damage for issues like stains, burns, and fading.
You won’t find anything more unique than the pieces at Arhoj Studio! Designer Anders Arhoj uses a mix of classic Scandi and Japanese influence with his personal touch to create eclectic, uber colorful ceramic and glassware in the form of everything from vases and planters to typical mugs and bowls.
I’m so obsessed with the colorway of this Munch bowl and the Hana vase in Sakura is the epitome of Japandi style!
IKEA isn’t only known for their Swedish meatballs—they’re also one of the most affordable Scandinavian furniture brands. Like I said earlier, Scandinavian style is all about function and style (i.e. things that look as good as they work). And what else would you expect from one of the best Scandinavian furniture brands? They’re a jack of all trades with everything you need to furnish your home at any budget.
I’m a big fan of their Regolit pendant shade—paired with the Hemma cord set and Solhetta LED bulbs you can get that soft and diffused light that is totally Scandi and way more affordable than the similar rice paper shade from HAY.
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” seems to fit the Scandi/Nordic aesthetic and as a result, there’s a lot of similarity in styles and products across a bunch of brands. Luckily, there are some companies that use innovation to build on strong Scandi basics.
If you’re looking for a little edginess, make sure to check out Muuto—they’re all about putting a contemporary twist on heritage Scandi design.
Among their bestsellers, this framed mirror stands out to me. It’s so sleek and would look great in a foyer or even mounted with the smaller size to double as wall decor. Mirrors are usually pretty understated everyday objects but the rose and taupe tinted options add an extra unique twist!
Based in Copenhagen, Ferm Living creates furniture, accessories, and lighting collections for every home. They have a generous kids’ section with some adorable mini Scandi classics like the Little Architect chair.
I think the Haze cupboard is absolutely gorgeous and would elevate any room (bathroom, office, dining room, the sky’s the limit)! I love how the reeded glass walls add organic texture and softness to the contrasting steel frame.
If you aren’t ready to make the splurge, I also think the 100% organic cotton Twofold dishcloth set is a great affordable option to add a touch of Scandi energy in your kitchen. It would be awesome as a gift too!
Stuga specializes in premium hardwood flooring and stair solutions, delivered to your doorstep. Since they’re a direct-to-consumer company, the middleman is eliminated, which means you save on over 20 kinds of beautiful Scandinavian flooring that’s meant to last a lifetime!
Their tongue-and-groove locking system means installation is straightforward and Stuga provides lots of online tutorials and instruction to assist. If you’d rather sit back and relax, you can contact one of Stuga’s preferred installers or an NWFA-certified professional installer local to you.
Shell is a neutral oak with a rustic look and great texture which makes it a great family and pet-friendly option. One of the best sellers is Little Square and it’s not hard to see why—it’s versatile mid-plank oak with super easy cleaning and maintenance.
There’s a lot of overlap with minimalism and Scandi design, and Stelton definitely embraces it! Stelton is one of my favorite Danish brands that partners with designers and architects to create pieces that follow the “less is more” mindset. (Remember: minimal ≠ boring!)
Their Pier portable LED lamp is a modern twist on the classic lantern with a super sleek look and adjustable settings. There’s 3 different light levels so you can customize the ambience from cozy to full glow.
It’s also wireless and can be charged via USB cable for 8-60+ hours of use, depending on the brightness. It wouldn’t be Scandi if it wasn’t functional—you can use the Pier lamp outdoors and indoors, which means even camping trips can have a little Scandi magic!
There’s a lot of Scandinavian furniture outlets out there but this one is worth a visit! Similar to Nordic Nest, Finnish Design Shop is a marketplace for dozens or Scandinavian and Nordic design brands. Seriously, they have a huge selection…
You can even shop for sauna accessories and bird boxes! The website is full of some of the best home accessories brands in the Scandi game. It’s a great place to snag a deal on big brands like Ferm Living or Marimekko and also discover niche brands and unique items.
I seriously love this Nine Moods poster from Danish brand MADO. How cute would this be in a kitchen or bedroom? Posters are a great way to inject bright color and personality on plain walls without the commitment and cost of paint or wallpaper.
String Furniture is best known for their flexible String® system. It’s a system of panels and shelves (in metal or wood finishes) that can be mixed to build shelving or storage that’s perfectly customized to your space and taste. Everything is no frills, super practical, and thoughtfully designed.
The Bathroom A setup is perfect for a smaller bathroom where you want to make the most of square footage. The cabinet/mirror combo gives you lots of storage for toiletries (no more messy sink!) and there’s even space for a houseplant or to hang a small towel.
Iris Hantverk might be the most unique brand on this list—their specialty is traditional handcrafted Swedish brush binding! They use natural materials that are selected for durability and functionality.
Iris Hantverk products range from basic bath brushes to makeup brushes and scouring pads. Dry brushing has recently gotten popular for improving blood and lymph circulation and this brush would be great for incorporating it into your routine!
The horse hair bristles are sturdy enough to stimulate blood flow and you can even use the brush in the tub or shower with soap for extra exfoliation. Don’t worry about the wooden handle—the birch is oil-treated for better resistance to water.
Normann Copenhagen is all about an intuitive approach to native Danish roots. To me, they’re a more mature version of brands like HAY and stick to more traditional colorways. They offer collections of furniture, lighting, textiles, and home accessories.
The Drape lounge chair would be the perfect spot to curl up and read a book. It reminds me of the Swan chair from Fritz Hansen but way more affordable. Its curved upholstered shape gives it elevated comfort while keeping it clean and modern.
You can choose from 5 different upholstery options (even leather!) and 2 metal finishes to match the vibe of your space.
Huset, which means “house” in Swedish/Danish/Norwegian, is another marketplace that specializes in modern design. This means lots of pops of color, fun textures, and unconventional (but still super user-friendly) design.
On top of homegoods, they have fashion, accessories, and a hearty kids section, making it the perfect one-stop shop for Scandi-loving parents!
These Poketo glass mugs would brighten any mug collection. Not only do they have a unique look, but they’re also double insulated and crafted with Borosilicate glass that’s resistant to thermal shock. A durable mug that keeps my tea warm and looks cute while doing it is a win for me!
If you’ve seen the viral Knot cushion, you’ve seen Design House Stockholm, one of the best Scandinavian homeware brands. They refer to themselves as a “publisher of design” and aim to gather the most innovative and amazing ideas from both established and unknown designers, resulting in unique products with lots of personality.
Famous Swedish designers like Nina Jobs and Lena Bergström have partnered with the brand to produce bestsellers. Of course my favorite is their statement Knot cushion! It has so much more personality than a basic throw pillow and is a great way to jazz up a neutral-colored couch. The knot tube itself is knitted, so up close it looks even more luxe and high quality.
Another iconic piece from Design House Stockholm is the Block lamp. It was actually created by designer Harri Koskinen when he was just a student and added to the MoMA’s permanent collection in 2000!
Here’s one for fans of bold graphics and dynamic colors! Marimekko is a Finnish brand that specializes in textiles, fashion, and home furnishings. You’ll always see Marimekko products in Scandinavian home decor stores. They’ve also collaborated with other big brands like adidas and even IKEA to bring their trademark designs to sportswear and homegoods.
I’m eyeing this cozy throw blanket for the cabin—it’s 100% merino wool AKA super soft and super warm. I love the fringed edges and the reversible pattern gives you 2 different looks. You can even get matching cushion covers to fully deck out your living room in Marimekko!
Scandi design doesn’t mean 24/7 boring wood and muted, neutral colors. I love how &Tradition incorporates funkier fabrics like sheepskin and velvet while still staying true to clean, functional designs.
One of my favorite &Tradition pieces is this modular sofa. It’s so gorgeous in the green velvet fabric and the geometric shape of the modules keep it from leaning towards too mature or frumpy. I think it would be great as a statement couch or even in a living room with lots of color.
And how cute is the Flowerpot lamp? I’m a sucker for cobalt blue and I love that it’s portable so you don’t have to always worry about outlets. The best part might be that the design was inspired by the 60s Flower Power era!
Danish design brands are notorious for making hardy, timeless pieces. Skagerak is no exception! They offer beautiful indoor and outdoor home collections. You can expect lots of natural wood and tasteful touches of other materials like linen and powder-coated steel in basics like mirrors and side tables.
With spring and summer around the corner, I would check out Skagerak’s outdoor selection. The Columbus sunbed is one of my top picks and would be a perfect upgrade from the flimsy plasticky sunbeds we all grew up with.
It’s made with sturdy teak wood and SunTexture fabric that’s water repellent and UV resistant. The design is just as thoughtful—the 2 wheels means you don’t have to awkwardly lift and drag the lounger to get to a better tanning spot!
Under the same parent company as another great Scandi design brand called MENU, by Lassen pays homage to the Danish designer/architect brother duo of Mogens and Flemming Lassen. All of their furniture and home decor is sophisticated and minimalist-friendly—expect lots of wood, clean metalwork, and natural colorways. You can’t beat the basics!
The Jäger table is a perfect example of Scandinavian practicality without sacrificing aesthetics. This coffee table is crafted with your choice of oiled oak or walnut (shown above) wood and tasteful brass accents.
It’s collapsible so you can fold and store it away with ease for anytime you need some extra space.
There’s a lot of Swedish home decor brands out there, but don’t skip Sagaform! Their products are effortlessly timeless and would look great in any home. Sagaform is a great place to look for artful Scandi design-inspired gifts. They even offer Prime shipping on a lot of items in their Amazon storefront!
Kitchen accessories are a great area to start making small interior design additions to elevate your home. This carafe would dress up any dinner party and add a touch of elegance to even a cheap bottle of wine! I’m obsessed with the simple oak stopper (and how it’s dishwater-friendly).
I hope you love these Nordic home brands as much as I do! I tried to not include the ones that were stupid crazy expensive or too out of reach for my fellow American shoppers.
But, if you know of any great brands that should be added to the list, please drop them below so everyone can see!!
