7 years ago Robin and I had just moved to San Francisco and decided to do a Valentine’s Day trip to Napa Valley. We were super young, broke, knew nothing about wine and the day before our trip we both came down with nasty colds, but we decided to go anyways. (You can see those OG photos in this post).
As you can imagine, that trip was a massive fail. But since, we’ve adopted a tradition of heading on a mini California wine country vacation each February. (Hey, Napa during Valentine’s Day is super romantic after all!)
We just got back from a weekend in Calistoga for wine tasting and couples spa treatments and I got so many questions about my outfits on Instagram, so I wanted to share the outfits I wore(with shopping links!) for you guys!
For California newbies, Calistoga is a small city at the top of Napa Valley and it’s a super cute wine-tasting town known for award-winning wineries and romantic resorts with natural hot spring waters & mud baths. And, even though it’s currently winter, we lucked out with spring-feeling weather so I got to wear all my favorite dresses and swimsuits instead of bundling up in sweaters.
All My Calistoga Romantic Getaway Outfits
Here’s all the outfits I wore! For sizing reference, I’m a size 14 and usually wear a Large or XL. (And yes, I wore a lot of outfits in a limited time because after the panny, I take any chance I can get to dress up – ha!)
Floral Midi Dress & Coat
Calistoga is about 1.5-2 hours drive from San Francisco, so Robin and I decided to swing by Keller Estates in the Petaluma Gap as our halfway point on the way up. Right now this winery is popping off with spring flowers and with the nice spring-like weather, the tasting was outside.
The morning started off a bit chilly, so I wore my trust tan coat (similar here) over my new floral dress (I’m wearing the XL). The back is open with ties so it’s super flirty for a romantic wine tasting getaway. I can’t wait to make this dress part of my regular wine tasting outfits rotation, especially in the hot summer months. The open back is also practical for warm weather!
Red One Piece Swimsuit
Immediately after we checked into our hotel in Calistoga, I threw this swimsuit on, grabbed my retro sunglasses, and headed to the pool to soak up the sunshine and soak in the heated pool. Again, I was so not expecting such nice weather this week!
The second I saw this red swimsuit on Cupshe, I added it to my cart. I’ve been on the hunt literally for years for a good solid red one-piece swimsuit that can fit curves AND still look flirty. (Why oh why do some brands still make curvy and plus-size swimsuits like we’re all retired and have no taste?)
This baby fits like a dream and holds everything in. Cupshe has been my go-to affordable swimsuit shop for a while now, especially since they carry cute plus-size designs! Here are my favorite swimsuits from them at the moment:
Silk Dress For Dinner
Yes, I packed enough dresses and swimsuits for a week-long vacation, but you’ll be proud of me: I only packed 1 pair of shoes. These heels! These are my trusty wine tasting and travel heels. I’ve worn these literally all over the world, from tromping through vineyards, to exploring historic castles and to dining in fancy restaurants.
They’re super versatile in style, too. They worked with my floral dress for wine tasting earlier, and also with this new silk dress that I wanted to wear for dinner. I hardly ever see silk dresses like this a) made in sizes larger than a L and b) actually worn by women with my body type. So of course I had to buy it, and wear it to prove to myself (and the world!) that curvy bodies can wear tight, luxurious silky dresses like this one.
I did throw my coat back on from earlier, as we opted to sit outside and by the end of dinner, I was chilly. BUT, I felt hot as hell in this dress. I can’t wait to wear this dress on my next date night.
Glittery Loungewear
As you know, I’m a loungewear addict but I especially love to bring cute pajamas and loungewear on trips so I have something fun to wear in the hotel room and to bed. I’ve had this comfy glitter set for a while now – last seen in my post all about what to pack for a winter cabin getaway from this past Christmas when the girls and I went to Oakhurst.
I especially love to pack this set on trips because the pants double as “real world” pants. Pair them with a bodysuit and heels, and they’re good to go for lunch or dinner.
Retro Colorblock Swimsuit
You know me – I can never bring just one swimsuit while on vacation. Mostly because I practically live in water – from swimming in waterfalls to soaking in hot tubs – swimsuits are my most-worn item when traveling. And I hate the feeling of getting into a wet swimsuit so I always pack a ton.
This fun retro colorblock one-piece is also from Cupshe. It’s an INSTANT favorite that you will be seeing here on the blog a lot in the future, especially as I hunt down more swimming holes this upcoming summer.
Flowy Lilac Dress
Despite being a weekend early, this was our Valentine’s Day trip so of course, we had to swing by Castello Di Amorosa, the famous castle winery in Napa Valley! I wore my favorite lilac dress from Gal Meets Glam (last seen on the blog in Maui).
I love the way this dress twirls and made me a little bit like a princess running around this castle. It’s a few years old, so not sold anymore but I found a similar lilac dress here for you guys!
So, those are all the outfits I wore to Calistoga on our romantic getaway. Which outfit is your favorite? Tell me below!
