How To Fake Bangs With Long Hair: Easy 5 Step Hair Tutorial
Alright, this is how to do fake bangs in under 5 minutes!
Step One: Brush & Heat Protect
Since this tutorial uses a hair straightener, start by brushing your hair and then working some heat protectant spray throughout your ends. You don’t need to spray throughout your head, just the ends since that’s the area we’ll be apply heat to!
Step Two: Make The Bun
Next, pull your hair into a top knot bun but leave the ends of your hair hanging over your head as pictured. This is how to make fake bangs! Secure your bun and brush your new fake bangs out so they lay flat.
Note: this hack only works if your hair is long enough. If you have short hair, you won’t have enough hair to create the look of false bangs. If it’s too short you’ll end up with awkward fringe at this step instead of chic bangs.
Step Three: Straighten Your Bangs
Get your hot tools ready and straighten your fake bangs out. Depending on how your hair lays and your texture, you may have to slightly curl your “bangs” inwards towards your face to make them lay flat on your head.
Your end goals is to style and form the ends of your hair to look straight and flat like normal bangs. They’ll want to stick up and out at first, so mold until they look correct! You can use Playa’s finishing spray to help make them lay flat if they aren’t corporating.
Step Four: Pull Out Strands Of Hair
I love the effortless look of a slightly messy bun. Once I get my bangs looking bomb, I pull out a few more strands of hair around my face. Adding hair creates more texture and “messiness” to my updo, which is the look I want!
I have some baby hairs that make this easy but I also use a brush to help me pull these strands out. If they are sticking out at odd angles, use some of the Playa’s finishing spray here, too.
Step Five: Add The Headscarf
The last step in completing your DIY fake bangs updo is adding your headscarf! (That’s right, no bobby pins are needed in this look!)
You’ll need a headband or headscarf to cover-up parts of your hair where you can see that your faux bangs are just the ends of your hair.
I have tons of headscarves so I love using them in daily looks. You can tie headscarves in so many ways, but I usually wear them with a big bow on the top of my head for a cute, boho updo. I make sure I secure it tight enough so my fake hair bangs don’t move around too much.
And, that’s how to give yourself fake bangs! No need to cut your own hair to create fake wispy bangs for a messy yet chic updo. As a wannabe hipster girl, I LOVE this hack and plan on wearing my hair like this a lot moving forward.
Headscarves + Headbands I Love:
I hope this helps you learn how to make bangs without cutting your hair and how to make cute boho-chic updo hairstyles in just a few minutes. I just learned this a few days ago but already am wearing my hair up like this with fake bangs all the time.
