Feeling a lot like Adele when I say “hello from the othersideeeee!!” The otherside being the off the grid side of life, aka what we’ve been on for most of our entire van trip these past 9 days. We just got back and to be honest, it’s kind of weird.
As I wrote in this week’s email newsletter, I quickly got into the swing of “no screens” and just being completely in the moment during our trip. (Like, I lost my phone in the van every day, I just wasn’t concerned with trying the check it.) Now that we’re back though, I almost feel like the world has too much digital noise. I think it’ll take a few days to get back into the swing of things.
What I am extremely grateful though is a shower!!! We spent the last 4 days of our trip showerless and boy did that van STINK by the end! My hair has never been happier after I washed it today.
Since my last travel diaries log, we headed into the mountains to Diamond Lake. This was sort of by accident as we intended to visit Crater Lake National Park but most of the roads were closed due to snow. Yes, it was June and they were still getting snow up there! We weren’t keen on driving an extra 3 hours of our way just to visit a tiny part of the park, so we skipped it and headed to Diamond Lake instead.
Guys, this lake is a hidden gem! It’s absolutely beautiful and there’s a campsite right on the water. That evening the weather was all over the place. It rained, was hot and sunny, snowed, hailed and sleeted all within the same couple of hours. Despite the odd weather, we had so much fun camping here.
After, we visited the Umpqua Hot Springs (will be writing a guide to this!) and headed over to the Oregon Coast to our favorite little coastal town of Bandon. We stuffed ourselves with clam chowder and kept driving down the coast. We visited Eureka, the Lost Coast, The Avenue of Giants, Mendocino and Bodega Bay before heading home.
I’ll be writing detailed guides on most of the places we visited along with tons of campervan trips in the coming weeks. I first have to unpack the van, chug a cold La Croix & cuddle Twyla!
