“You walked 11 miles today” my phone pinged me, as I boarded the London Underground back to myself, closing out a month traveling in Europe.
And, to my surprise, my feet weren’t killing me. On my European adventure, I’ve been testing out a couple different travel shoes, including the famous Twoobs sandals which I wore this day.
For any seasoned traveler, the struggle is real: finding travel shoes that are cute enough to complement your wanderlust outfits, yet comfortable enough to handle endless miles of exploration, can feel like a never-ending quest. But with the Twoobs, could I have finally found the holy grail?
Keep reading for my honest Twoobs review after wearing them across Europe for a month!
About Twoobs
Twoobs is founded by two sisters, who, “after one too many blisters encountered traveling to global fashion weeks” had “discovered a need for beautiful & comfortable shoes”. Instead of waiting around for someone else to make a better shoe, they did it themselves.
But Twoobs isn’t just a sandal that’s cute, they’re good for the planet, too.
- Recyclable
- B Corp Certified business
- Carbon Offset (1,415,145kg of carbon with EcoCart as of May 2024)
- Vegan
Twoobs started with the OG model, a comfortable sandal in many color options, with velcro straps and designed to be worn “to all the places for extended periods of time, including but not limited to beach, work, life, and anywhere else you prefer to be blister-free.”
Twoobs OG sandal is one of our favorite travel sandals on the market. Once broken in, you can easily walk 11+ miles a day in these shoes (trust us, our CEO tested them out in Europe to make sure!)
- Many colors
- Vegan
- B-Corp
- Simple & Chic
- Can walk 11+ miles a day
- Takes a while to break in
- Expensive
Since 2016, they have expanded from flat sandals to also platform sandals for the shorties, even more color options, something called Frilly Thingys which are, true to the name, frills you can add to your sandals, and accessories such as socks and Protecty Stuff, their branded shoe cleaning solution.
Are Twoobs A Cuter Teva Alternative?
If you love a good travel sneaker, all the power to you but I simply *cannot* stand foot swamp after a long day exploring a city. I’m a sandal girlie for walking all day and while I adore my Tevas (seriously, they have been practically glued to my feet every summer since buying them), I must admit: they aren’t the cutest.
And I’m gal who loves wearing cute Sezane dresses in Copenhagen and always checks a bag simply for fashion. So, when I discovered Twoobs, they looked like they could deliver all the foot support that Tevas do, but are actually cute enough to pair with my Darling Society pants and frilly blouses.
Twoobs: add to cart.
The Twoobs Sandals I Wore & Tested
I bought The OG in Fondant, a delightful brown/tan color that matches my wardrobe color scheme well. (I’m an autumn color palette girlie).
The Twoob sandal reviews online give it 4.8 stars, so I figured this was the perfect shoe to try out for my month jetting across Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Malmo, Uppsala, and London.
I must admit, in person the shoe is really really pretty for a simple travel sandal. It’s all uniform in color (woo!), and the fabric looks high end. It’s made with recycled lycra, organic cotton and velcro on the top, while the footbed and sole are made from recycled PU, memory foam for support, sugarcane EVA and natural rubber to help your feet grip while walking.
Putting Twoobs To The Test
I purchased my Twoobs about 2 months before my Europe trip to break them in a little bit before the real test. While in Europe, I walked over 50 miles in these sandals through the rainy streets of Amsterdam, while jumping around at Eurovision in Malmo, across the cobblestone streets of Copenhagen, through wild gardens and trails of the Swedish countryside and finally, over 20 miles on the streets of London alone.
I Hated My Twoobs At First
I won’t lie, I hated Twoobs at first when I was breaking them in. Unlike my Tevas, which immediately felt comfortable on my feet, Twoobs took a while to adjust to. I felt like the bottom sole shape was just a little off on my flat feet, which caused them to be sore after a few miles of walking.
But there are so many glowing reviews online, so I had a feeling maybe I just needed to try some more. I knew that some shoes take a while to break in, even sandals designed to be worn for hundreds of miles of walking.
That being said, I did play it safe and tuck my trusty Tevas in my suitcase to Europe, just in case.
Once Broken In, Twoobs Felt Like Magic
I finally got the Twoobs broken in during a long day of walking in Copenhagen and suddenly they went from meh to amazing. It took me a while to figure out exactly how tight I liked the straps, which was the real key to making my Twoobs feel comfortable on my feet.
Ever since then, walking in them has been really really lovely. I got blisters from a pair of boots I wore, but never blisters from the Twoobs. The bottoms are sturdy enough to tackle terrain like cobblestone without twisting my ankle, too.
But How Durable Are Twoobs?
I just flew back from London and am looking at my Twoobs sandals right now. They obviously don’t look brand new, but they don’t look like I walked 50 miles in them through dirty streets, literal dirt and rain.
Compared to other travel sandals I’ve tried, Twoobs are very durable. I expect these to last many years and many trips based on their performance.
Things I Don’t Like About Twoobs
This can’t be a proper review post without highlighting the meh things about the brand!
Twoobs Return Policy Isn’t Customer Friendly
Shopping for any clothing online is always a struggle. It’s so common for something to not fit exactly right, maybe you need to size up or down. Twoobs doesn’t offer free return like is standard with most companies, especially for ones at the income caliber of Twoobs.
If you live in Australia, you can return our shoes for $13.99. But if you live outside Australia, return fees are unknown, albeit much higher, and are based on where you live. So, if you live in the US as I do, you can expect to pay at least $40-50 just to return your shoes.
On the flip side, I get it. Shipping is expensive for anyone (consumer or company), and I bet they justify not offering easy returns for environmental reasons. But, this policy makes it incredibly hard for customers to explore the brand. Spending over $100 a pair of shoes that you can really return is a big gamble. If Twoobs wants to expand to conquer the worldwide market, this policy will need a change.
Twoobs Take Time To Break In
As I mentioned above, the main struggle with wearing Twoobs is that they take a while to break in. But, they do break in and once they do, they are *chef kiss* perfect.
Honest Twoobs Review: Are They Worth It?
Yes, Twoobs are worth the buy and I’m probably going to get a few more pairs in different colors so I can have something to compliment every outfit I wear on trips.
The do take a while to break in, which is their major downfall, so buy them well before your trip and wear them a lot beforehand to get used to how the arch support feels and where to position the straps.
But, once you break Twoobs in, you can expect to comfortably walk 11 miles a day and not injure your feet or develop blisters.
Thingys are Twoobs version of toe rings — a way to dress up your footsies without re-living the noughties or being naughty towards the planet.
Made from recycled Lycra, cotton yarn, and elastic, they're an environmentally friendly way to give your OG or OG+ TWOOBS some bling.
