Porto, Portugal is home to some of the best Porto Airbnbs in Europe, and it’s one of my favorite cities on the continent. I’ve been countless times, most recently this spring as the launchpad for walking the Camino de Santiago. I’ve stayed in Porto hotels, but my favorite way to experience the city is through vacation rentals. You just get so much more: more space, better locations, actual kitchens for your morning espresso situation, and views that no hotel in the same price range can touch.
Some of the best Porto Airbnbs are cooler than anything on the hotel market here. We’re talking historic center apartments with original azulejo tile, Porto apartments with terraces overlooking the Douro River, and walking-distance-to-everything flats that drop you right in the middle of downtown Porto like a local.
Waking up in a well-designed space, stepping onto your balcony with a pastel de nata, and having the best places in Porto basically outside your front door is just a different kind of trip.
My Top 3 Best Porto Airbnbs
- Scenic Views Duplex in the Historic Centre: best for couples who want cathedral views and a central location
- Boutique Duplex with Private Balconies: best for two travelers who want two balconies and serious wow-factor views
- D. Hugo Boutique Studio with Rooftop Pool: best Porto Airbnb with a pool, daily breakfast included
Best Porto Airbnbs For Views, Decor, & Classic Portugal Living
These are the best Airbnbs in Porto that I’ve either stayed at myself or have saved for my next visit. Whether you’re after a Porto Airbnb with a pool, a cozy one-bedroom in the historic center, or something with serious wow-factor views, there’s something on this list for you.
1. Scenic Views Duplex in the Historic Centre
- Good for: couples, solo travelers, remote workers
- Location: Historic Centre, Porto, Portugal
- Why stay here: 17th century building, duplex layout, balcony overlooking the cathedral, fiber WiFi, walking distance to everything
I stayed at this duplex in the historic centre and the balcony is the whole reason to book it. It looks directly out over the Porto Cathedral and I spent an embarrassing amount of time just sitting out there watching the light change. Sunrise, sunset, that golden hour where everything goes pink and the azulejo rooftops start to glow. I didn’t want to leave.
The duplex layout is smart: living room and kitchenette downstairs, bedroom and bathroom tucked upstairs. The whole space is bright and airy with warm light flooding in, and the building is 17th century but the interior is clean and modern, which is exactly the combo you want in the historic center.
Two guest maximum, and the street is steep so Uber in with luggage rather than haul bags up the hill. But once you’re in, everything is walkable: Rua das Flores is steps away and São Bento is a short walk downhill.
2. The Duke’s Luxury River House
- Good for: large groups, bachelor/bachelorette trips, family reunions, celebratory getaways
- Location: Ribeira, Porto, Portugal
- Why stay here: four-story Portuguese riverside home, direct views of Dom Luís Bridge, Douro river views, sleeps up to 15, custom craftsmanship throughout, steps from the waterfront promenade
The Duke Airbnb has been on my wishlist since I first spotted it, and I saved it specifically because I cannot think of another vacation rental in Porto where ten people can wake up to that view of Dom Luís Bridge without it costing a small fortune per person. It’s a four-story authentic Portuguese home sitting right at the foot of Dom Luís Bridge, which means your views of the Douro river are about as iconic as it gets in this city.
The interior has real craftsmanship and local character, nothing generic about it. Five bedrooms across multiple floors means a group of ten can spread out and actually have their own space, which is rare at this price point.
One honest note from guests: it’s right on the lively Ribeira waterfront, so earplugs are your friend if you’re a light sleeper. Works best for groups who are here to be in the middle of everything and be literally steps from restaurants.
3. Boutique Duplex with Private Balconies and Monumental Views
- Good for: couples, solo travelers, remote workers, friends trips
- Location: UNESCO Historic Centre, Porto, Portugal
- Why stay here: two private balconies, panoramic cathedral and rooftop views, 17th century building with original stone and wood details, Nespresso setup, air conditioning, walking distance to Clérigos Tower and São Bento
I stayed at this boutique duplex with a friend a few years back and the two private balconies are what I still think about. Two of them, in the historic center, both with unobstructed views over the cathedral and rooftops. That is not easy to find. The building was originally a blacksmith’s workshop and the original stone and wood details are still intact, so you get that 17th century character without sacrificing modern comfort: air conditioning, fast WiFi, a Nespresso corner, and a marble walk-in shower.
One morning I made coffee, climbed up to the small window on the second floor, opened it up, and found myself eye to eye with a seagull perched on the roof next door. That’s Porto for you.
The open-concept layout has two sleeping areas separated by the bathroom, which works well for close friends or couples but worth knowing there are no doors between the sleeping spaces. Also no children allowed due to the stairs and balcony layout, so plan accordingly.
4. D&S Palace of the Princes Studio
- Good for: couples, solo travelers, Camino pilgrims, anyone wanting a central base
- Location: Cedofeita Art District, Porto, Portugal
- Why stay here: inside the historic Palácio dos Príncipes building, private sunny balcony, fully equipped kitchen, Nespresso, washer/dryer, air conditioning, walkable to everything
My friend Nicole owns this studio in the Palácio dos Príncipes with her husband, and she’s a wine expert who knows Porto inside out, so you know the apartment reflects people who actually care about the city. We met on my very first trip to Portugal and she told me a lot of her guests are actually in Porto to start the Camino de Santiago, which makes total sense given the location.
It’s in the Cedofeita Art District on Miguel Bombarda Street, one of the cooler, more local-feeling neighborhoods in the city, with great restaurants and shops right outside the door. The private balcony gets good sun and the fully equipped kitchen means you’re not forced to eat out every single meal if you don’t want to.
Two guest maximum. Works best for couples or solo travelers who want a charming, well-located base without paying for rooms they don’t need.
5. Kinga’s Ribeira River Apartment
- Good for: couples, two couples, small groups, anyone who wants a view-forward stay
- Location: Ribeira, UNESCO Historic Centre, Porto, Portugal
- Why stay here: bedroom windows facing the Douro river and Dom Luís Bridge, living room balcony overlooking Palácio da Bolsa Square, high-end custom furniture, Lousani bath amenities, fully equipped kitchen, elevator in building
Every room in Kinga’s Ribeira apartment has a different view worth staring at. I saved this one because the combination of the Palácio da Bolsa Square balcony AND the river-facing bedrooms in the same apartment is something I haven’t seen anywhere else at this price point in the Ribeira. The living room balcony looks out over Palácio da Bolsa Square, and both bedrooms face the Douro river and Dom Luís Bridge directly. Custom-made furniture, quality linens, bath products from Portuguese brand Lousani.
Two bedrooms makes it a great pick for two couples who want their own space, and Palácio da Bolsa and Rua das Flores are literally a two minute walk away. Clérigos Tower is about twelve minutes on foot. One thing to note: late check-in after 9pm carries an additional fee, so worth planning your arrival around that.
6. Wonderful Porto Terrace
- Good for: couples, solo travelers, anyone who wants a locals neighborhood feel over a tourist-central location
- Location: Historic Centre, Porto, Portugal
- Why stay here: top floor penthouse, vertical garden terrace with Douro river views, 19th century building with original pine floors and hand-painted facade tiles, Nespresso, mini bar with complimentary drinks
A friend of mine stayed at Wonderful Porto Terrace and has not stopped talking about the terrace since. I bookmarked it after she sent me photos because the vertical garden terrace on a top floor penthouse with a Douro view is exactly the kind of thing that sounds made up until you see it. It’s a penthouse on the third floor of a 19th century building with original pine wood floors, recovered stone walls, hand-painted facade tiles and wooden shutters. Hosts Maria and Sérgio leave complimentary drinks in the mini bar, which is a very good detail after a long day walking Porto’s hills.
The trade-off is it’s about a 15 minute walk from the main sites, so it has more of an everyday Portugal vacation rental feel than a dead-center tourist location. My friend loved that about it actually, but if you want to roll out of bed and be at the metro station in two minutes, this isn’t that.
7. Aliados 9 Luxury Studio in a Historic Beaux-Arts Building
- Good for: couples, solo travelers, design lovers, remote workers
- Location: Aliados, City Centre, Porto, Portugal
- Why stay here: inside the landmark 1925 Edifício A Nacional, Beaux-Arts architecture with soaring ceilings and monumental windows, SMEG kitchen appliances, Rituals bathroom amenities, underfloor heating, striped statement couch, dead center city location
Aliados 9 is inside one of Porto’s most architecturally significant buildings, the 1925 Edifício A Nacional designed by Marques da Silva, and the interior lives up to the address. The living room has that striped couch I love, high ceilings, and big south-facing windows that flood the whole apartment rental with light. The kitchen is full SMEG appliances including an induction hob, air fryer and Nespresso, and the bathroom has underfloor heating and Rituals amenities, which are both very good details on a cold Porto morning.
Guests also get complimentary port and cake on arrival according to recent reviews, which is a nice touch. It’s a studio so the bedroom area and living space share the same room, and it fits three guests maximum. Works best for couples or solo travelers who want to be in the absolute dead center of downtown Porto with serious style.
8. Loft with River View by YoursPorto
- Good for: couples, solo travelers, anyone who wants the Douro river basically in their bedroom
- Location: Ribeira, Porto, Portugal
- Why stay here: open plan studio with Dom Luís Bridge visible from the bed, balcony directly over the river, Ribeira UNESCO World Heritage location, elevator, walking distance to the tram to the beach
If you want the Airbnb in Porto with the best view, this loft by YoursPorto is a serious contender. I saved this one because waking up to the Dom Luís Bridge literally above your bed is the most Porto thing I can imagine and I need to experience that at least once. The balcony sits directly over the river looking out toward the Port wine caves of Gaia across the water, and the open plan living room, kitchen and bedroom all share the same space so it’s cozy rather than sprawling.
Worth knowing it’s on a lively stretch of Ribeira so there’s some street noise, earplugs recommended if you’re a light sleeper. The tram to the beach is a two minute walk and pretty much everywhere in the historic centre is reachable on foot from here.
9. D. Hugo Boutique Studio with Rooftop Pool and River Views
- Good for: couples, anyone looking for a Porto Airbnb with a pool, sunset chasers
- Location: Historic Centre, Porto, Portugal
- Why stay here: shared infinity pool on outdoor terrace with river and Gaia views, daily breakfast included, modern studio with Murphy bed, São Bento metro station seven minutes away, daily housekeeping
If you’re looking for a Porto Airbnb with a pool, this is the one to book. I almost booked this for my Camino trip but saved it for a future trip with my husband because I can picture us up on that terrace with a glass of wine watching the sun go down over Gaia every single evening. The shared swimming pool sits on an outdoor terrace with views straight across the river, and from the reviews it sounds like guests often have the whole space to themselves.
The studio itself has a Murphy bed that folds away during the day so the living room actually feels like a living room, plus daily breakfast is included which is a rare perk in Portugal vacation rentals at this price point. Access is by stairs only so worth knowing if that’s a concern. São Bento is seven minutes away on foot.
10. Douro Terrace & River Views in Vila Nova de Gaia
- Good for: families, two couples, anyone who wants a pool and easy access to the Port wine cellars
- Location: Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto, Portugal
- Why stay here: two bedrooms, heated indoor swimming pool, gym, private garage parking, terrace with city skyline views, steps from the famous Port wine cellars
Quick geography note: Vila Nova de Gaia sits directly across the Douro river from Porto and you’d never know they’re technically separate cities as a tourist. Gaia is actually where all the famous Port wine cellars are, so if a tasting is on your list, this two bedroom apartment puts you right in the thick of it. The building has a heated indoor swimming pool and gym, there’s private garage parking included, and the terrace looks out over the city skyline.
The master bedroom is a full suite with its own en-suite bathroom, and the second bedroom has two single beds, so it works well for families or two couples who want their own space. The Bolhão market and Ribeira district are a short metro ride across the bridge. New listing so no reviews yet, worth knowing before you book.
11. VIVA Fabulous Old World
- Good for: couples, small groups, history and decor lovers, anyone who wants character over cookie-cutter
- Location: Historic Centre, Porto, Portugal
- Why stay here: 200 year old protected building, canopy bed, pellet stove, two bedrooms, balcony, walking distance to Clérigos Tower and Lello Bookstore, homemade breakfast delivery available
VIVA Fabulous Old World is the Porto apartment rental for people who want to feel like they actually live in the city rather than just passing through it. The building is over 200 years old and protected, the decor is personal and layered with character: think canopy bed, Chinese brush paintings by host Teresa on the walls, Asian touches mixed with old world Portuguese details. It’s a proper two bedroom apartment with a living room, a pellet stove for cozy nights, air conditioning, and a balcony.
The hosts Kurt and Teresa are a San Francisco and Porto couple who lived in Asia for years, and that background shows in how the whole place is put together. It’s right in the heart of the city, a short walk to the train station at São Bento, Bolhão market, Clérigos Tower and Lello Bookstore.
Saturday nights can get noisy given how central it is, so light sleepers take note. Homemade breakfast delivery is available if you want to arrange it in advance, which is a very good option when you don’t feel like going out.
FAQ: Best Airbnbs in Porto, Portugal
What is the best area to stay in Porto? The historic centre and Ribeira are the most popular areas for vacation rentals in Porto. You’re walking distance to São Bento train station, Clérigos Tower, Lello Bookstore and the Douro river from both neighborhoods. Cedofeita is a slightly quieter, more local-feeling alternative if you want to be away from the main tourist drag.
Is it better to stay in a Porto hotel or Airbnb? For most trips, a Porto Airbnb wins. You get more space, better views, an equipped kitchen for morning coffee and pastries, and a more local feel than most Porto hotels can offer at the same price point.
What is the best Porto Airbnb with a pool? The D. Hugo Boutique Studio has a shared infinity pool on an outdoor terrace with river and Gaia views, and daily breakfast is included. The Douro Terrace apartment in Vila Nova de Gaia has a heated indoor swimming pool and gym if you want something available year round.
Is Vila Nova de Gaia worth staying in instead of Porto? It depends what you’re after. Gaia sits directly across the Douro river from Porto and is walkable via the Dom Luís Bridge. If you want to be near the Port wine cellars or want a quieter, more residential feel, it’s a great option. The best rentals Porto-side will put you closer to the historic centre action though.
How far in advance should I book a Porto Airbnb? For peak season (June through September) and holidays, book at least two to three months out. The best Porto Airbnbs fill up fast, especially the smaller one and two bedroom apartments in the historic centre.
Is Porto a good city for solo travelers? 100% yes. Porto is extremely walkable, safe, and easy to navigate solo. Several of the apartment rentals on this list are designed for one or two guests and are priced accordingly. Many travelers also use Porto as their starting point for walking the Camino de Santiago.
