Summer is HERE and this year is extra special since I’m spending most of it up in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in Arnold, California renovating my cabin!
This mountain town has a lot of love about it, but one of my favorite things is all the alpine lakes and rivers to take a dip in. Followed by cozy evenings at the cabin in the hot tub or on the deck with drinks, I’m in heaven. Cabin life is my ideal summer vacation.
If you’re looking for cute summer cabin outfits to pack along for your cabin trip, look no further!
I live full-time down in San Francisco where summers are foggy and chilly, so I always have to remind myself that anytime up at the cabin is going to be at least 30 degrees warmer and probably a wee bit humid, too!
I finally get to break out all my breezy outfits hehe.
Cute Summer Cabin Outfit Ideas & Packing List Items
I hope this helps you figure out what to wear to a cabin in the summertime!
1. Curvy Girl Bikinis
A good curvy-friendly bikini has quickly made it’s way into my summer capsule wardrobe.
My favorite company is Cupshe. They have TONS of styles and options and as a size 14 gal, I never have a hard time finding a swimsuit that flaunts my curves in all the right places.
If you’re heading to a cabin for a weekend, I bet you’ll have a hot tub or a swimming hole nearby. Make sure to pack at least one bikini, but 1-3 is better so you can let them dry in between uses! Your summer packing lists must have a good bikini.

2. Cute Sandals Or Flip Flops
Summer house outfits always hinge on a really great pair of shoes.
I prefer sandals like this Vineyards Black Crisscross pair that have a strap on the back to stay on my feet as I run around the woods. They’re super versatile and match more of my other summer cabin trip outfits for dinners out (and work well with my summer city outfits, too!)
But you may prefer a simple slide-on shoe or flip-flop to make it easy to transition from the pool or lake into the lake house. I love these woven strap sandals for just that!
These sandals have a flat heel design and adjustable ankle buckle design with a cushioned footbed for a comfort fit. Open-toe design offers easy wear.
Optional: if you’re heading to a waterfall you should opt for water sandals to avoid slipping on rocks. These are my favorites!
3. Swimsuit Cover Up
Every gal needs a good swimsuit cover-up. Depending on where I am / the vibe of the place, I either opt for a pair of breezy pants, a loose dress or a tie cover-up.
For the lake , my go-to is usually a tie cover up as snack bars rarely had a dress code, but if I’m popping into a nearby restaurant I’ll opt for something like this coverup dress.
Elevate your beach style with this Open-Front Cover-Up Duster Kimono - a breezy and elegant design that's perfect for layering over your swimsuit for a day of sun, sand, and relaxation!
4. Sunscreen
F cancer! Make sure you’re wearing tons of SPF. If I’m swimming in natural bodies of water, I make sure to use sunscreens without damaging chemicals to protect the water systems.
For a lake day in the mountains up here at 4,000 elevations, I always burn easier. I aim for a facial sunscreen, a body sunscreen and even sunscreen chapstick. And of course, reapply every couple of hours.
5. Cute One Piece Swimsuit
Ok, I had to add another swimsuit! I usually travel with 2 bikinis and 1 one-piece swimsuit on warm weather vacations (well, even in the winter, too!) so I have options.
Sometimes I find myself swimming multiple times a day and I hate putting on a wet swimsuit (yuck). Cupshe makes some really wonderful one pieces that are curvy girl friendly and super trendy.
Like this wrap halter top – it’s so chic and original! I’m going to be wearing this a LOT around the lakes this summer I can tell.
Description: A plunging V-neckline gives this one-piece a bold look and the self-tie halter provides you with a comfortable fit. Padded cups add coverage and support; perfect to wear in and out of the water. |

6. Beach Towel
One of those cases when size does matter. Bathroom towels just aren’t the same – trust me, I’ve tried and always end up getting sand stuck all over my body.
Make sure to pack 1-2 really large beach towels for your cabin vacation! You can’t have too many places to lounge around in the shade or buy the water. I’m really loving how colorful and fun this stripped beach towel is.
Get ready to lay out on this Sunrise Striped Beach Blanket. This vibrant beach blanket is the ultimate beach accessory. Quick dry; Compact &Light weight; Sand won’t stick at the beach blanket.
7. Waterproof Phone Case
Lake attire extends to your phones! If you’re a paddleboarder or kayaker, do yourself a favor and get a really good waterproof phone case.
I love to go kayaking, especially on alpine lakes. I own a dry bag but sometimes it’s easier to just throw your phone in a case and jet off into the water instead of dealing with packing yet another bag.
8. Cozy Sweater
No matter where you are taking your summer cabin trip, it’s always a good idea to pack along a sweater for the evenings.
Especially if you’ll be in the mountains, the weather is very fickle up here! A good sweater isn’t just for a winter vacation. I’m writing this post in the start of June when last week was a high of 85 and now it’s 55 and I’m shivering!
9. Nice Dinner Outfits
You can bring a pair of comfortable leggings and shirt to change into at the end of the day, sure, but instead, I suggest a cute summer dress or outfit to wear right from the lake to dinner.
Most of my cute cabin outfits are dresses that feel amazing on my skin kissed skin (ok let’s face it: sunburnt skin) in the evenings after a long day at the lake. I find they make the best sort of cozy cabin outfits for warm weather.
You can also opt for a breezy romper or matching two piece set! These are some of my favorites right now.

10. Hair Brush
Your cute lake outfits can’t shine if your hair is a knotty mess. I always pack a hair brush to the lake or river so I can brush my hair out right away to keep it from going insane.
11. Brimmed or Straw Sunhat
I’m a sucker for a good straw hat (I own at least 6 and can’t help but pack one on any vacation, but especially a summer trip to the cabin!)
Hats provide tons of needed sun protection and shade on hot days. Plus, they look super cute! You can opt for a brimmed hat like this if a straw one isn’t your vibe.
12. Minimal Makeup
I don’t know how Taylor Swift keeps her makeup on in all those pouring rain shows since for me, the second I get a little sweaty, my makeup just comes right off.
Personally, I prefer to rock super minimal makeup when I’m at the cabin in the summertime. I rely heavily on sunscreen and just a little of mascara and lipstick for dinner. Easy, chill – like a weekend at the cabin should be.
This is my current go-to minimal makeup routine if you want to see more!
13. Stylish Beach Bag
Hey, cabin life is kind all about the water and you need a good beach bag for that! I’m loving this large beach tote from Cupshe right now that goes with all sorts of swimsuits and coverups.
14. Cabin Loungewear
At the end of the day, you’ll want to get cozy at the cabin. Most likely it’ll be pretty hot and humid so opt for some light sleepwear like this sleep set.
I always end up getting a sunburn as least once and having light layers on my red skin is *cheff kiss* the best way to hang out at night.
Depending on where you are based, you may need bug spray for your cabin trip! Here in California, the bugs aren’t much of a bother thank goodness, but I grew up in Wisconsin and summers meant dosing myself in deet whenever we went to the lake house.
