*Shouts into the void* why are camera bags so dang ugly? Or just not practical at all?
As a travel addict and a professional photographer, it’s been a lifelong struggle of mine to find a camera bag that checks all the boxes. You know – one that matches my personal style (hey, a girl wants to look cute) but is also big enough to actually fit my DSLR without digging into my shoulder. And doesn’t scream “I’m a camera bag containing thousands of dollars of equipment, please steal me!”
So I spent hours digging around the interwebs researching bags, and testing a few out in real life, to bring you the best camera bags for women that are stylish AND functional.
My personal favorite style of camera bags are either a backpack or a crossbody style. That’s because these days when I’m taking photos I’m either doing things like hiking to secret hot springs or on a long shoot day (hence, the backpack so I can stuff outfits and props inside) or exploring a city and need a bag that has easy access to my camera to take out, snap, and stash away again.
But that’s my personal preference. There are so many stylish camera bags out there and I’ve included all the styles here so you’re sure to find the PERFECT bag for you and your needs!
I’ll be sharing bags that check all the boxes for a good cute camera bag:
- Style / Design: Does it look like something your Dad would wear during a childhood vacation or is the design sleek and stylish enough to match your outfits? I’m harsh about this one. Just like with anti-theft travel bags, I want a camera bag that cute.
- Function: How easy is it to access your camera? Will your gear be protected? Can it fit your phone and wallet and hand sanitizer, too?
- Value: I’ll be honest. There aren’t many affordable stylish camera bags that are going to actually function well and stand the test of time. That being said, I’ve tried to only include bags that are really worth the value!! Something you can keep for years and years.
Top Camera Bags for Women: 13 Functional Yet Stylish DSLR Camera Bags You'll Love
Fashionable camera bags that are also super durable and functional. Yes please! From camera backpacks to purses to crossbody satchels, these are the camera bags I'm loving for work and travel.
This is the holy grail of camera backpacks! I've been using it on tons of hikes around the West Coast this year and it holds up. There's a section just for your camera, and the top part is empty for clothes, snacks, etc. There's tons of pockets and even a waterproof shell!
This is the leather camera bag I use on many outings. Look how cute it is!! The inside is padded to keep my gear safe and comfy, and the shoulder strap is adjustable to keep me comfy. What I love most about this crossbody camera bag is how it looks like a normal purse, not something filled with expensive photography gear.
I've had this for a few years and I think it's one of the best camera purses for anyone looking for something stylish and feminine. It features front pockets for stashing memory cards, too! View more photos here.
Note: it did me really well until I recently swapped my 35mm lens for a 70mm, which is tad longer. Not it's a little hard to fit my camera AND other things I need in the bag (wallet, phone, etc) so this is best for a smaller camera body or lens, like a 50mm or 35mm.
Kelly Moore Bags are some of the top designer camera bags on the market. They carry everything from purses to satchels to backpacks, like The Tourist here. Yes, it's pricey but this is the ultimate travel bag for photographers.
It can fit all your camera gear AND your laptop along with room for other things likes clothes and toiletries. There's front pockets for quick access to your phone and wallet when needed while traveling. The straps are comfy, it's water-resistant and since it's Italian leather, it'll last literally for years and years. Kelly Moore camera bags and backpacks are workhorses and totally worth it.
Under $100 this stylish camera bag packs a punch. It looks like a normal fashion purse on the outside, but inside you get 2 dividers to pad your camera along with exterior and interior pockets. It's sneaky and perfect for anyone who really wants to blend in with the crowd.
This fashionable camera bag has 4 dividers to keep your camera gear organized and snug. The straps can be adjusted to be worn to ways (either as a camera tote bag with a shorter strap or longer to be worn as a crossbody ).
I love the pink color which is so different than a lot of the good yet cute camera bags on the market, which are usually leather or all black. Instead, this looks like a work tote and hence pairs well with so many outfits. If you're looking for a shoulder bag that you can also double as a regular tote when not taking photos, this is it.
This is the ultimate camera handbag. You can fit a large DSLR and lens in here, along with a tablet and anything else you normally keep in your purse. But you can also remove the dividers and turn it into a regular handbag.
If you're traveling, consider this camera bag as you can carry it all day to museums and sites, but it's nice enough for a nice dinner out.
This is the other camera bag that I personally own and iI LOVE IT! I've had it for about 4 years now and while it's starting to get a little worn, it's still holding up really well considering I take this everywhere. The wax coating makes it water resistant (and I can attest it holds up in the rain!)
This type of small camera bag comes with three pockets and a back zipper that fits my phone, extra battery, rain bag and wallet but somehow isn't too bulky when carrying my Canon 7D DSLR.
10/10 recommend. It also comes in leather if you're looking for something that's super chic!
Similar to the ONA Bond Street, the MegaGear bag is small and compact so it's easy to carry around. It comes in fun colors like blue if you're looking to steer away from the leather look that's all too common with camera bags.
This bag has two outer pockets to stash your phone or wallet and the hardware is gold, making it extra chic and functional.
Omgee how fun is this emerald green color?! I was shocked when I learned this was a camera bag, not a street-style backpack. It can hold up to a 15" laptop and your camera and lens, with plenty of room left over for a water bottle, phone and anything else you need for a day on the town.
It's super stylish and pairs well with any outfit, especially fall and winter styles. With being at a lower price point than a lot of similar leather camera backpacks this Bellbrooke bag is a clear winner.
PS this brand also is the maker of the Jo Totes Gracie Camera Bag, which is highly rated shoulder bag with tons of pockets if that's what your looking for.
Another ONA bag that hits all the marks for me. It's like a cross between a messenger camera bag and a backpack as it's designed to be worn on your back, but you can easily swing it around to pull out your camera in one swift motion.
It's big enough to carry a DSLR and two lens plus other items like phone, memory cards, wallets, etc thanks to the two front pockets and interior pocket. I'm eyeing this for myself honestly. I think it'll be really nice for urban hikes.
Another small yet mighty bag. Sometimes a gal just needs something tiny and lightweight. This is canvas instead of leather, so it's right and flexible. It's just big enough to stash a DSLR away but it's also small enough to pack into large backpacks or suitcases.
Gatta are the QUEENS of chic camera bags that look runway-ready. I honestly love all the styles they have but especially adore this backpack that's big enough for a camera with a lens, on top of room for a sweater, sunglasses, phone, and wallet - aka everything I need while out exploring a new city!
Back when I used to photograph weddings, I always struggled hauling all my bodies, lenses and lighting gear along with me. This duffle is simply the best storage solution I've found out there for packing a TON of gear into one chic, sturdy bag.
It's also big enough you can pack some clothes in here and another camera bag if you wanted something to carry with you out and about - like on a job or a trip.
I love my two camera bags but I kinda have a bag obsession – I love to hoard them and am starting to build a small collection. (Some gals have a traditional purse love – I’ve got a thing for camera bags.)
I hope you were able to find the perfect new camera bag for yourself in this list!! If your favorite bag didn’t make the cut, drop a comment below so everyone can see. I may even add it in! If you have questions about any of the bags, comment or DM me on Instagram @thewhimsysoul and I’ll be happy to help.
