Where my curvy gals at?!
As I’ve chatted with ya’ll many times before, being a middle size gal can be challenging when it comes time to find dresses that flatter my shape (asking yourself WTF a middle size is? Read this post!) It took me years to nail down which companies and dress types are best for my size 12 curves, and a LOT of trial and error!
I can’t tell you the number of times I bought a cute dress in a size 12 that looks great on the model only to try it on and the top is WAY to big because the designer felt that a big but also means big boobs (not the case for me.)
Or the bottom squeezes way too much because the designs still can’t account for curvy shapes. *SMH*
37 Cute AF Dresses For Curvy Women
I know so many of my readers here at Whimsy Soul struggle with finding trendy, comfy AND affordable dresses. Heck, I do, too.
There is a surprisingly large amount of store who, upon toggling that Size 12 + Size 14 button on the side, will suddenly have their available dresses just plummet. And frequently, dresses for curvy women and plus size women that the stores have aren’t nearly as trendy or cute as the ones available in size 12. (Seriously, what’s up with that?)
SO, I hunted down all the best dresses, and I’ve rounded up my favorites in stock right now so you can shop and slay whatever life throws at ya!

Cute Midi Dresses For Curves
Midi dresses are my go-to dress style and I usually always stalk the new arrivals at my favorite stores first. I love how midi dresses are longer to provide full coverage on my thighs but not too long (I’m 5’5″, on the border of petite styles so that’s a whole other can of worms to deal with.)
I look for midi dresses that hit in an a-line shape or cinch in right under the breast area, since I have an hourglass figure and that shape of dress tends to hit me in all the best places (plus is really, really comfy!) Here’s my favorite midi dresses to shop:
The Best Maxi Dresses For Curvy Women
I love Maxi dresses during the summertime because they are flowy and romantic.I look for maxi dresses that are looser and hit around my ankle.
Feeling Bold? Try These Tight Fit & Bodycon Dresses For Curves!
Bodycon dresses & tighter fit dresses aren’t always the most friendly of clothes for curvy women, but I think the real key to rocking one is self-confidence. And like, a really bold lip is never a bad idea.
My Favorite Shirt Dresses & Smock Dresses
I love shirt dresses with short sleeves during the summer, and long sleeves during the winter! They’re fun to wear with tall boots and a cardigan in the fall. Shirt dresses can sometimes we super awkward on curvy shapes because they tend to be straight, so I look for shirt dresses that are either oversized to account for the curvy bodies wearing them. Or, dresses that have built-in shape.
Cozy Sweater Dresses
Come winter, I love snuggling up in a cozy sweater dress. So much more comfortable than jeans and a sweater! Pair with tights and boots for an office-approved look.
The Best Places To Shop Dresses For Curves
I nailed down my capsule wardrobe style a while ago and realized I gravitate towards A-line dresses in a floral print. Lately, I’ve really been into solid bold colors like yellow, too.
Wrap dresses are NOT the best dresses for curvy women in my opinion. I have yet to find one that doesn’t slip up and show it all to the world. So when I’m shopping at one of these stores, I know to avoid wrap dresses and try to look at A-line Midi Dresses first. It helps a bunch in finding dresses that fit well!
Looking to style on your own? No worries! These are the top stores I look at when shopping for dresses for curves:
- Target (the mothership)
- Torrid
- Asos Curve dresses (also try the regular Asos section, their size 12 is pretty good!)
- Anthropologie
- Old Navy
- H&M (can be hit or miss, but the hits are great)
