New & Original Harry Potter Inspired Cocktail Recipes
As a true 90’s baby, I’ve been waiting for my Hogwarts letter since I was 11. I’ve never attempted any of my own Harry Potter themed drinks before but over quarantine, my Ravenclaw husband and I have been really into learning how to be our own bartenders.
And to be honest, as a Slytherin I was cocky enough to believe that I could do Harry Potter mixology better than Universal Studios and you know what – I think we totally pulled it off. You’ll love our Harry Potter drinks, which are perfect for the ultimate Harry Potter party or watch a marathon on a cold weekend.
Again, we really pushed ourselves to think creatively and make delicious Harry Potter cocktails that you haven’t seen before. Polyjuice Potion drink? Everyone does that. Making these recipes forced us to play in the kitchen and really tested our knowledge of obscure Harry Potter details or characters. (It helps that we just re-listened to a few of the audiobooks together so things were top of mind!)
Grab a cocktail shaker and wands, get your ice cubes ready, these are all our Harry Potter drink recipes.
6 New Harry Potter Cocktails For The Ultimate Fan
I made 6 totally new, original Harry Potter cocktails for the ultimate wizarding world fan. From a Death Eater's margarita to Hogwarts mulled wine, these Harry Potter inspired drink recipes are tasty, fun and muggle-approved!
Inspiration: When Harry travel via the Floo Network for the first time and gets sent to Nocturn Alley
Tasting Notes: Smokey, Cinnamon, Star Anise
Of all the cocktail recipes, this one maybe mimics a Harry Potter potions class best. It's interactive and really feels magical because as the photo suggests - you actually set it on fire like you do when traveling the Floo Network! (Maybe I should have named this one the Seamus Finnigan?)
This Floo Powder cocktail is fun to do at home but I can't wait to show it off at a party for the ultimate entertaining trick. It's my favorite Harry Potter recipe that we’ve created so far, too!
Inspiration: A merge between Provencal Lavender fields & the Beauxbaton horses' drink of choice (Single Malt Whiskey)
Tasting Notes: Floral with a bite
I wish we knew more about Beauxbatons Academy of Magic. I've always imagined their chateau had lavender fields somewhere. We know the Beauxbaton horses only drink Single Match Whiskey so a true "Beauxbaton horses cocktail" would just be a finger or two of whiskey, so we jazzed it up a bit with a nod to their French home. Is is a great Goblet of Fire drink to sip on while watching the movie!
Inspiration: When a Death Eater apparates into the Leaky Cauldron with her girlfriends, what does she order for happy hour?
Tasting Notes: Citrus, smokey, sweet
I just can't see Bellatrix drinking a sugary green margarita with a lime wedge and everything - but I just KNOW that woman loves to drink and gossip about the dark lord and mudbloods with her friends. We figured out how to turn cocktails black (like the black smoke when apparating), swapped a few traditional margarita ingredients out and boom: the Death Eater's smoke cocktail.
Inspiration: Gillyweed, the plant Harry used in the Triward's Tournament to breathe underwater.
Tasting Notes: Sweet, botanical, salty
Gillywater is one of the only Harry Potter alcoholic drinks that is ever included in the books. (Butterbeer is the most famous of the drinks in Harry Potter but there are a few other cocktails mentioned!) But, it's so brief and there's no real detail about what Gillywater actually is, though we envision it involves a little bit of Gillyweed somehow.
In the muggle world, our Gillywater cocktail is a fresh take on the classic Gin & Tonic (but with a twist you'll love, and no added sugar!)
Inspiration: The Headmaster's Long, White, Brillant Beard
Tasting Notes: Chocolate, creamy, sweet
Yes, this cocktail was inspired by Dumbledore's beard!! The man himself totally drinks lemon drops or something, but his beard evokes something sweet, almost like a desert. This White Russian-style cocktail is like a desert, but with a twist from the standard recipe.
You can replace the whipped cream with ice cream if you want. I can confidently say I'll be drinking this every Christmas for the rest of my life.
Inspiration: When most of the kids are gone, we think the professors get drunk on Christmas Day over a traditional wizard glühwein.
Tasting Notes: Cinnamon, spicey wine, orange
You can convince me that the house-elves don't make the professors an annual Christmas Glühwein each holiday season when the kids are gone. We know from one of the books that Professor McGonagall gets drunk on Christmas Day - I like to think it's off this Hogwarts secret German-style mulled wine recipe!
I hope this helps you find the perfect Harry Potter drink recipe for your movie night!! While you’re here, please pin this image so you can easily find all these cocktail recipes again in the future! I’ll be updating this post as I create more new cocktails, too!
