While lounging on our huge private deck at Casa Madrona, I found myself Googling how much rent on apartments in Sausalito cost. With the sunshine, warm air and a stunning view of the sailboats in the bay below, all from our deck, I suddenly felt the urge to move to this tiny seaside town. And that’s the mark of a great hotel, isn’t it? So good you want to move in asap.

Robin and I spent live in San Francisco but popped over the Bay for a long weekend in Sausalito, with Casa Madrona as our home base! I’m so happy we stayed here. This entire hotel has chic nautical vibes, views from every corner is located downtown Sausalito and right next door to the best dinner in town.
Casa Madrona’s history dates back to 1885, but the inside is all renovated, merging the Bay’s old-world charm and luxury in the most perfect way.
There are a handful of hotels in Sausalito, but none as unique as Casa Madrona. See, the hotel isn’t formatted like your traditional hotel. It’s more like a hodge-podge of buildings (including a mansion) that have been merged together, resulting in views for almost all of the rooms and tons of outdoor space for firepits and garden nooks.
It also means a lot of stairs! Sausalito is a very hilly city and all the houses are built into the hillside. Casa Madrona is no different! Our room was at the top of the hill and I actually really enjoyed climbing to the top. The views got better and better as we went up!
Sipping wine on a private deck overlooking the Bay is my idea of perfection.
Casa Madrona is always having packages and specials. We got the beginning of their fall chocolate and wine pairing, which was a delightful spread to snack on when we arrived. These offers are always changing with the season, so check out the latest ones here!
Due to proximity to San Francisco, Sausalito attracts culinary talent, but I don’t think you’ll find anything better than Poggio, which is right next door to Casa Madrona. They do Italian justice! Grab a seat outside to really feel like you walked into Positano.
Everything on the menu is delicious, but I recommend starting off with the yellowfin tartare and a housemade cocktail or the Aperol spritz! For your main course, we initially ordered pasta but the chef was like “no, you want the pizza” and sent out a gorgonzola and fig pizza instead. HOLY MOLY YOU GUYS. I’m a pizza snob and Poggio’s take on pizza totally blew my mind. I never knew I wanted figs on pizza but I’m now a huge fan. Make sure to come here for dinner one night while in town!
